Any cities that were different than you expected? Columbus, GA for me. (Needs replies from my younger crowd) (Macon: hotels, pros and cons)

Realistically in most metros white flight occurs due to people leaving the inner city problems. In Augusta's instance the majority went to West Richmond County and then when that became landlocked it spilled over into Columbia County. The government didn't help. The last two years have seen an increase in Richmond County's numbers with the reviatalization efforts downtown and in the city as a whole. With a better mayor and now a better commission (there has been no drama in the commission since the two main drama kings left) things are looking up for Richmond County. Anyone who keeps up with the government news knows that the the only problem in the government is the Coliseum Authority and that's about to be disbanded soon. Even with those problems there were still several major acts booked recently. I know, I had the opportunity to attend some of them. When I get the chance I will post several of the projects going on in Downtown Augusta now for those who think that there's nothing being done to revitalize the core.

How about the Chattahoochee (Indian for "dirty water"), which is an open sewage ditch full of Atlanta's refuse (not to mention the bodies that go floating by)?

How about the Space Museum? What the heck is a space museum doing in the middle of nowhere? I guess that's what Coca-Cola had to do to get the Columbus folks to quite whining that the Coke formula was really discovered in Columbus.

How about that monstrosity of a sculpture sitting out in front of the RiverCenter? What the hell is that thing anyway!?

How about all of the stupid and fat people in Columbus? I guess West Virginia doesn't have the market on missing teeth.

Those are just a few of the highlights of Columbus--there's more. Aflac also has its share of stories, too. I'd rather die in a fire than to live there again or work at Aflac. When I was there, I kept wondering what I did to make God so angry at me. On the plus side, it's a good place to commit suicide.

Quite frankly, DeathWaits4U, I believe I speak for most of the residents of Columbus, Georgia when I say you can kiss our ass and we hope that you never come back. If Columbus was so damn bad, why the hell did you stay for so long? If you had such a problem with everything in Columbus, why didn't you just stay your ass in your fancy house at Lakebottom until you found you a new fancy house somewhere else. We don't take kindly to rich snobish bastards like yourself living in our community and talking so much **** about it. You seemed to have hated the food here, however you kept eating it? Too bad you never choked on it. If you did and I was there, I would have laughed, promise. Anyway... eat **** and have a horrible day!

Columbus, GA is the number one city attacked for its greatness out of all of the 2nd tier cities in Georgia. They're all biased comments. Columbus is home to great companies that produce services and products that all of these Macon and Augusta people depend on every day. Basically, we provide for them. The movies they watch (Carmike Cinemas headquarters), their supplemental insurance (the Great Aflac), their banking and Credit card transactions which are almost all done through TSYS and Synovus, the very grills they cook their food on (Charbroil), the camoflauge they use to hunt with (Realtree), the colas they drink (Birthplace of Coca-Cola and RC Cola), the airplanes you fly in (Pratt and Whitney and Cessna), and the list goes on. You guys pretty much depend on Columbus, so keep your negative comments to yourself. C-Town Down.

Columbus... better than Augusta or Albany or Macon, worse than some other towns. I would recommend Valdosta; even though it is 1/4 the size in population, it has many of the same "amenities" as larger Georgia towns.

Downtown Columbus (college/cafes/etc) is okay, mall is big but boring, restaurants plentiful. Reminds me of Macon but slightly better quality of life... but just my impression as a visitor. Not my first choice, but I could live there for love or money

The River(walk) area is interesting, and worth a visit if you are in Columbus. I hear it may not be 100% safe after dark, however.

This gentlemen's remarks pretty much reflect the city as a whole and the surrounding areas(lee,russell,talbot,chattahoochee) and is probably the bottom line as to why this city continues to flounder economically and culturally unless it is free(which is the only way to get anyone to show up and even then they complain and are picky)
A town that could have been a contender but threw it all away.

All cities get their fair share of "hate." For what I don't know. You can find safe nice places and good jobs in all of the metro areas if you do your homework.

I am not misinformed. I simply was posting that these companies are either headquartered or they were started in Columbus (such as RC Cola).
