Jam 5 You keep making these comments about blacks.....you consistently say you not trying to be races but listen to what you are saying..... you can comment about slums, projects or thugs with out having to add blacks to it like black people are the only ones who live in slums, projects and produce crime and acted like thugs...... Yes you are being racist........Because there is no need to add the word Blacks every time you speak of poverty and crime areas..

jam 5 you dont make much sense. Not everything is how it appears anyway, not everybody in a suit is a successful businessman and not every black guy with a "gold grill in his mouth" is a thug or even from the ghetto. Nobody in here was talking about slavery, where in the crap did this come from? Sounds like you're trying to start something deliberately.

No, but personal appearance is extremely important when making first impressions.

I suspect that someone with gold teeth is NOT going to make a good impression in most social situations in the US.

Default Did DeathWaits4U actually live in Columbus

It's hard too believe that anyone could live in Columbus and work for AFLAC and not know that it's Dinglewood Pharmacy that serves the famous scrambled dogs, not "Dingleberry", since it is located directly across from AFLAC headquarters.

I'm not a big fan of Dinglewood's dogs (I think there are many superior versions at other places in Columbus), but it's all a matter of taste; the long lines at the Dinglewood lunch counter every day are testimony to the fact that they're pleasing a lot of people.

Traditional Columbus barbecue sauce IS NOT mustard based; it is approximately one third mustard, one third tomato, one third vinegar. DeathWaits4U deserves what he got for eating barbecue at Country's, which is just one step above Sonny's. Macon Road Barbecue, about a mile east of Country's, serves barbecue that is as good as any in Georgia on an average day and close to the best in the world on a good day.

Finally, DeathWaits4U doesn't mention one of Columbus' greatest assets: the peforming arts. It has the state theater of Georgia, the Spring Opera House; and a fabulous performing arts center with an exceptional lineup for performers for a city of its size.

For those with kids, it also has one of the few really good high schools in the state: Columbus High.

Default Reply to Hyun Soo

Excuse me Hyun Soo, exactly what neighborhood in Downtown Columbus were you in where there were supposedly "no antebellum houses, museums, restaurants, offices, etc"?

Did you just breeze down the main highway at 80 miles an hour without stopping?

Columbus' big thing is it's many awards for preserving history. Many foundations, organizations, government agencies etc. have recognized Columbus for it's committment to preserving, renovating, reusing Historic Federal Era, Antebellum, & Victorian homes..(and now: turn-of-the-century bungalows) as well as Historic Commercial and Industrial Buildings for mixed use. Historic Structures here in Downtown are used everday in a thriving mixed-use community for things such as: Student Dorms, High-end apartments, Offices, Coffee Shops, Night Spots, River Whitewater Sports Outfitters, Bike Trail Rental Supplies, Skate Board Park Outfitters, High End Restaurants, Chain Restaurants, Theme Bars, Theme Restaurants, Museums, Hotels, Information Centers, Conference Centers, Meeting Halls, Convention Centers, Performance Halls, University Classrooms, Commercial Art Galleries, Public Art Galleries, University Art Galleries, Outdoor Cafes, many different Theatres from Large to small in different performing art categories (Dance, Drama, Music). Also using the historic renovations are: Government Agencies, Retailers, The Columbus State University Arts Campus, and Fortune 500 companies........all with offices.......all within redeveloped historic structures.

I'm getting very tired of the dozens of negative posts generated by the same individuals on this website that have some sort of axe to grind. If you, and the other negative thread posters have a personal issue with this community...then come out with it... and tell the truth about your motives instead of exaggerating about the so-called horrors of Columbus.

I'm a specialty contractor and former military member. I've lived all over the states. ALL OVER! I seriously doubt that any of you complainers would be happy in any town....anywhere...based on your nitpicking. As for Columbus, this town fairs very very well and is far ahead in it's forward thinking than most mid-sized communities of it's peers. Perhaps you took a wrong turn and were shown something else.....maybe a wrong street or neighborhood....and assumed you were in downtown Columbus. If you really sought out Downtown and stayed for a while, you would've enjoyed a warm, friendly, relaxing, diverse, and safe community full of forward thinking educators, artists, business, and entepreneurs.

I go Downtown for enjoyment...ON PURPOSE! I go there to enjoy coffee and a meal in a quaint outdoor cafe, and to absorb the artsy culture.

I always make it a point to go to downtown ON PURPOSE to enjoy the heritage and culture of the city's historic past being preserved for modern use.

So for you to sit there and type out the EXACT OPPOSITE of what this community exudes and stands for is very irresponsible, and is a lie.

I lived in Macon for one and a half years. There are many charming historic buildings, homes, and neighborhoods there. I'm very glad they have continued to make efforts to preserve their past. It's very beautiful. I enjoyed living there and still have friends there.

Macon is overall a lovely city, and I felt very positive about the safe and vibrant experience of living there.

I feel the same positive feeling in Columbus as well.

Macon does have lot's a beauty and excitement there. Just like here, they are preserving and reusing. But they too have neighborhoods that you sometimes arrive at with a wrong turn that don't want to frequent.

But so does every city in America.

Picking on Columbus and spreading misinformation is cheap and unfair.

You could say those exact same things about every single town in America.

Your negative and incorrect remarks are not appreciated here.

If you are going to be negative, at least try to be more accurate.

Your remarks, and those of other haters on this site are just flat out lies.

Ask any art campus student at Columbus State University how much they love the culture and environment of their Downtown Columbus Arts Campus community.

They are having a blast down there.

It's warm, friendly exciting, vibrant, and safe!

I hope you find what you're looking for elsewhere.

But I personally wouldn't welcome your attitude here.
So I hope you change your attitude so I could welcome you.

Columbus' downtown is very disappointing. The Riverwalk is nice, but it seems so dry. Macon has streets of antebellum houses, museums, restaurants, offices, etc. I didn't see much of that in downtown Columbus.

Columbus has a smaller metro population than Macon also...

Glad you like it as your overall expectations seem to be very low at best.
Your whole post is nothing but a sales pitch of I this and I that which certainly shows a person who obviously has a business interest in downtown area.
There was so much public drinking and fighting downtown last night most families watched from afar to avoid the ruckus.
Several folks with children where we watched(tsys parking lot)said they would not spend a dime or be caught dead with their family on broadway anymore.
It strikes me funny that posters like you act as though nothing bad or wrong ever happens in this city.....
For you to state that anything posted that you do not agree with is a flat out lie pretty much says it all.

Not once did he say this. You must have not read his post. If you read it, he mentions that anytihng that happens in Columbus happens in other cities as well. I was downtown last night and not once did I see any trouble. I saw families with children enjoying the festivities.
