In response to the OP, I say this: Columbus does not have to have a skyline to be a progressive or any better than Macon. By the way Macon has a downtown riddled with barred windows, boreded up shops, and could learn a lot from downtown Columbus- which is called Uptown. Columbus officials took a trip to Tampa a few months back to learn how it can improve what it already has. Macon could benefit from this. What was the other qu. the OP asked, no clubs in Columbus? Columbus has a great nightlife downtown and on Veterans Pkwy. Macon does have direct interstate access. Columbus has I-185 and I-85(the busiest interstate in the south if not the country) 20 minutes away. Columbus is in a perfect position for future growth.

Excellent post! These other people haven't educated themselves on what is happening. They look more ignorant everytime they post. All they do is complain and shout out their own opinions which are not based on fact....it's all opinion which has no credibility. Columbus is poised for tremendous growth here in the next 2-5 years. I am meeting with some banks next Friday about some upcoming projects. Just sit back and watch Columbus grow!

Ledger Enquirer news today.
More facts that seem to be constantly ignored for some reason.
Certainly doesn't represent growth/prosperity for the area and my heart goes out to these poor people.
What is most disturbiing is that this has been a major problem for the area long before anyone even mentioned a recession.
There are so many sleeping in the bathrooms along the riverwalk up to Bibb City that citizens don't even use the area anymore.
According to Phenix City statistics, in 2008 558 people were homeless, 368 were evicted from houses and 447 were evicted from apartments. In addition, there were approximately 200 people each who were released from jail or a mental institution.
The Rev. Johnnie Robinson, founder and executive director of House of Restoration, 1200 12th Court in Phenix City, said he urged city officials to pursue the grant during the June 15 work sessions.
Since 2001, Robinson’s ministry has provided emergency shelter for the homeless. The church has a dormitory located at 908 Seventh Ave. in Phenix City. Robinson said he hopes the grant is funded because he has seen an increase in poverty over the last few months.
“More men, women and children are out there and there are more families are out there,” Robinson said. “More hunger is out there. We’ve seen it from every angle. We’re just trying to assist in any way we can. From giving them a bed to sleep in and a bagged lunch, to helping them get a GED.

Not good news but great news!!
But unfortunately not progressive and diverse by no means as you posted over and over.
And please save us the tale of all the other cities being the same as Newnan Auburn and other outlying areas that have nowhere near the poverty/crime issues of Columbus nor a crime riddled uptown area(the city leaders would never allow it).
If that is what Columbus folks call entertainment it is a pretty sad state of affairs for such a BIG city. lol
Thanks in advance for agreeing with the facts.

You might find it helpful to actually view the statistics on Lee County AL, before you post. By the way, comparing Auburn to Newnan? How in the world did you end up in left field? Wrong turn I guess. Please stick to the topic. My goodness! By the way, having Auburn in our backyard has been and will continue to be an tremendous asset for Columbus and the area. Try spinning that? And while you're at it, get a good view of my "AU" car tag. Recruited by a GA company while matriculating through "Samuel Ginn School of Engineering", Auburn University.
