Nothing against you Mac_town because we all are entitled to our opinions, but your original post did sound like someone who was trying to start an argument. Your question was, " Any cities that were different than you expected?" Then you end your post with "Anybody else been to Columbus, GA and felt this way?" Nothing mature about that at all.

roamfree, I don't quite understand what you mean.

Not once did I come in calling other people's cities a "DUMP, HELLHOLE, etc" where all the people are one way or another. Rude gestures like that. NOW that is immature.

For an example, You said Macon didn't impress you and thats your opinion.
While I do not feel the same way exactly, I can understand where you are coming from. So no sweat.

My goal is not to find out where you are from and dig up any little thing to belittle your city, which is what it seems several of these guys on here do if you say something about their city that isn't in 100% praise of it.

When I said Columbus feels slow paced and boring for a city of almost 200,000 I'm pretty sure they could at least understand where I was coming from and respectfully disagree instead of coming in to name call my city.

Why bring anything like this up at all??? You didn't see any Columbus people saying anything about Macon being slow and boring compared to Columbus.

Honestly I would have been glad to have found this forum a little over 13 months ago. It's just his opinion. I happen to share some of it after living in Columbus and so does my friend from Meridian, Mississippi. I *did* find for an area of over 200K people (as was marketed to us) that it is a slower pace than other places it's size. Does that make it bad? No. But I would have like to have some information that wasn't trying to sell me on relocation and presented a more objective view. That's how I view the internet, obviously people generally complain about a place, but when there are NO COMPLAINTS ALLOWED without attacks to me it says what's hiding out there?

FWIW I'm nearly 40 and married with 3 kids and I found it dull. Again to each his own.

What I should have said is, to some it may seem like you were trying to start an argument. My bad! Like I said everyone is entitled to their opinions. I didn't like Macon but I'm not going to bad mouth the entire place. There are thing I don't like about Columbus as well. Seriously if my Mom didn't make us move here when I was two, I would probably bypass the entire state of Georgia.

Red face R-e-s-p-e-c-t

Im from Macon and dont have any problems with Columbus, partly due to the fact I dont know much about it. Each Georgia city is unique in its own way, and as long as your happy with your city you should promote it. However its one thing to disagree but its another to be disagreeable. We all have our opinions and we are entitled to them, "you may disagree which is fine but its not fine to be disagreeable". I do think thats taken lightly around here, and many people have become disagreeable including me at times.

I simply love Macon, I wasnt born here but i've been here most of my life, I attended the local public schools and felt it was a great experience, I could have chosen to go to private school but there's just something about public schools. I cant make people love Macon, nor will I try. Macon is what I love, its my passion and I wish most of you would have at least a little respect not to tear it down everytime you get a chance! Once again this is a wish and they dont always come true. I respect each and everyone of you as humans and I may disagree with some of you at times but its not my place to threat, hurt, or make anyone feel bad because of there opinions, something we're all entitled to!

Why in the world would you post something like you did, if you did not want the opposing view? You picked a fight and you did not like the results. Chalk it up as a lesson learned. If you can not get anyone to agree with you, then voice your opinion and keep moving. Columbus will never make everyone happy, but someone must be happy here (the city continue to grow). Any place I am not happy with, I move from. I don't linger and complain or two years later blog about it. By the way, when did I insult you? If I did I am deeply sorry, my intentions are not to insult, but to educate. USA_mom I thought you had moved on.

To be honest there is not much difference in Columbus, Macon, or Augusta. If Macon/Bibb had a consolidated government like Columbus & Augusta they would be much closer in population. As a matter of fact I think Macon metro pop is larger than Columbus. Macon has way more culture than Columbus. Columbus is really a military town.

Good Morning, y'all, folks and you guys. Ok, who let the secret out about Columbus being a militaty town? Columbus is a military town, but so is San Diego, San Antonio, Augusta and Savannah, so what's your point rattler? Columbus is proud of its military heritage, as a matter of fact we are building a very large museum in honor of the men and women who serve this great country of ours.

Wouldn't that make Columbus more cultural than Macon? Fort Benning brings people from all over the world who live and retire in Columbus. A lot of the people I know in Columbus are from other areas of the country. I don't think Macon, GA is that diverse.
