The Government Center,
Synovus Centre,
CB&T,
SunTrust Plaza,
Carmike Cinemas headquarters,
and the Aflac Tower (approx. 1 mi. from "Downtown proper").

Most notable is that most of these have been around for over 30 years~~
Where is the new growth that Atlcol, gaga and c84 keep talking about.?

Well, to start out, "Rails to Trails is making good progress, and should be completed by mid-2010."~WTVM

And now, back to the mall talk prom previous posts:

"In late 2006, the Columbus market lost one of its larger department stores. But it's gaining a super regional retailer known for promoting itself heavily to customers on a mid-priced budget. Charlotte, N.C.-based Belk Inc., the nation's largest privately owned department store, bought the 38-store Parisian chain from New York-based Saks Inc. for $285 million in cash. That included the 86,700-square-foot Parisian store that was added to Peachtree Mall on Manchester Expressway during a 1985 expansion. Now, GGP announced that Belk would finally take over the old Parisian building. The transition will take about 18 months, with plans to open Belk by mid-2011."~Ledger-Enquirer, September 29, 2009

Also, try this website for UPtown (Downtown) expansions: Current Projects.

God Bless!

Well....
First of all we are talking about business growth not a walking trail that was supposed to be a rail service to Warm Springs and passes right through the highest crime area in the city(as your pic shows)
As far as Belks goes it had no choice but to build here as it was part of package but you notice how far off the setup day is.
That pretty much says it all and shows how misleading old pictures can really be.

Have a blessed day......

It is a perfect move for Belk to set up in 2011. Have you not paid any attention to the economy and the retail climate in this country . Good business decision for Belk.

As I said before it was part of a mall purchase package with Peachtree at the bottom sales wise which is reflected in the setup date being nearly 2 years away.
Americus has had Belks for years and is empty most of the time as it is a very old chain that young folks ignore just like they did with parisians.
No big deal.

Also,
"Columbus Technical College is just about a year away from 'getting the keys' to its future health sciences center on River Road (GA. 219). In Fall of 2010, the first students are scheduled to take classes in this state-of-the-art facility."~WLTZ (NBC)

This bldg has been on hold for years(like everything else) and although it has a fancy name will NOT be training for nursing but your average 8-9 hour bedpan jobs.
CVCC in Phenix City had the real thing but even they lost accreditation recently.

Bless you..
