Sadly this is happening a lot quicker than expected.
I spoke to several Benning personnel who said this is the beginning of many hard years for Columbus with millions of dollars vanishing for local businesses etc.
The last time I saw this happen locally was the mid 80's after Reagan promised the trickle down fountain of cash for middle and low income families......it unfortunately did no make it to Columbus.
I expect to see a lot of going out business sales/closures and layoffs beginning very soon.

Hard to watch a community that once had a chance to be a leader turning into a drug and crime riddled area with minimum wages/benefits being the gold standard along with poor schools, inflated prices for medical/dental/rental housing compared to other areas.

Unfortunately city leaders sit on their hands sueing one another and grabbing state and federal freebee grants rather than keeping the eye on the bottom line.
Egos and legacies don't do much for local taxpayers.
Be curious to see how local churches will keep up their cash flow.

Yea, will be short lived, we'll have boots on the ground in the middle east within a year and new troops in Benning.

No doubt this hurts, but I don't have a clue what your talking about with the "Hard to watch a community that once had a chance to be a leader turning into a drug and crime riddled area with minimum wages/benefits being the gold standard along with poor schools, inflated prices for medical/dental/rental housing compared to other areas." line......

I expected that...a classic case of denial of ones surroundings.
