What is the purpose of the siren that goes off at noon every Saturday? I've lived here a year and a half and I don't think I've ever heard anyone say what it is.

They do it to test it once a week. That's the tornado and emergency siren that otherwise goes off to warn of tornadoes or to seek shelter

Ah. I should've known. Thanks for the response. I've been in and around town on Saturdays and have heard it. Today is the first day I've actually heard it at my house (in Cataula). It's not usually quiet enough here

It should be noted that there is a statewide tornado drill coming up in early February. The sirens will sound as if a a tornado warning was actually issued, but really its to get people to practice what to do.... There are videos of the sirens on YouTube BTW..... let me know if you want a link....or 2.... or 10... lol
