Itís about to get wet and wild in downtown Columbus ó if you are 12 years old or younger.

A new attraction is under construction on the riverfront and this one is going to be a big hit with the little folks.

A $592,000 playground, financed with private funds, is being built on a sliver of land off Front Avenue near 10th Street. On about an acre of land between the zip line tower and the splash pad, the park is taking shape.

It is scheduled to be open by the end of April, said Uptown Columbus Inc. President Richard Bishop. The splash pad óthink a bunch of water jets going off randomly ó will open around April 1, Bishop said.

Adjacent to the splash pad, the area will be a one-stop shop for free entertainment. Both attractions target those 12 or younger.

Though the playground is still five weeks or more from completion, you can get a feel for where it is going.

There are interactive outdoor musical instruments that have already been installed in an area of the playground called Harmony Park. The rest of the park will also include slides, swings and climbing apparatuses.

One of the issues that might have to be addressed is lighting, Bishop said. Because of street lights and Chattahoochee Riverwalk lights, there should be adequate lighting, Bishop said, but they want to evaluate it when the park is in place.

That looks great! I've seen some concept drawings of this.
