LaGrange continues its streak of job growth and development....
Battery maker Duracell is shifting North American production of AA and AAA batteries to its plant in LaGrange, Ga.

Duracell will close its 430-employee AA battery plant in Lancaster, S.C., over the coming three years, eliminating one of that county’s largest private employers. Production will be consolidated to the company's plant in LaGrange.

The move comes about five months after Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway bought the Connecticut-based company from Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG). Read more here from Atlanta Business Chronicle sister publication Charlotte Business Journal.

“We examined many options before we reached this conclusion,” Robert Lorch, president of global operations for Duracell, told The Lancaster News. “This was a very difficult decision as it affects the lives of our team members and their families who have invested so much in this facility. However, after careful deliberation, we’re taking this important step to position the Duracell business for growth.” Read more here.

The LaGrange Daily News reports the move will create new jobs at the LaGrange plant. LaGrange was chosen "because of its future land expansion potential, strategic transportation positioning and adjacency to the recently expanded Duracell LaGrange Business Center," the paper reported.
