I shouldn't have said "fan" but I would have been in support of these two quicker. That newest rendering lacks any character IMO. It looks like the standard cookie cutter 2018 Hampton Hotel designed for a suburban location.

A lot of brick structure stand the test of time. Their easier to maintain than glass and steel.

Brick buildings can also look modern. Look at the rapids project as an example.

They liked the first and 2nd renderings, but of course... everything costs money. The article talks about this, and how they started at the top and started to eliminate things until they could find a price that fits the budget.

If they had gotten the land/building for $50,000 like the Vision deal for city's 'convention hotel', of course all of this would probably be different but it costs alot of money to buy and then tear down a building

Probably would have been a lot cheaper to stabilize the building.

It seem like this project has slowed down once again. I was downtown today and didn't see anything happening with the building.
