Sequestration has had a huge impact on the local population. Now that things have somewhat stabilized at Fort Benning, I believe that the population of the Columbus metro will start to level out and slowly grow again.

I agree. We could see a net gain of 3,000+ next census.

It's going to be interesting to see if Columbus will keep the second largest city title. It's going to be very close this year with Augusta.

From the new 2016 estimates, Columbus has 197,485 people -- same as Muscogee County -- and Augusta right around 197,425 with the slender 2015-16 Richmond County gain factored in. Columbus retains bragging rights (which is all they are at this point).
