So I saw on another thread a fellow member had posted about let local media know about it. How do you all feel about our local media? We have four local news stations, 2 print newspapers, and 1 e-newspaper but it seems like all have flaws. Example WTVM has the largest television presence in Columbus but the journalist they have do nothing but scan watch groups and forums on Facebook all day for stories. They are also good at stealing stories from other media and running it like their own. WRBL does ok. I honestly think Elizabeth White is the best reporters locally, but the station has a very old feel to it and seems to mimic the same stories as other stations very little investigative journalism just what they get from press releases. WLTZ is a joke they let Robbie Watson bully her opinion into every story and deliver a massive amount of bias that it just kills the entire network. The Columbus Times is a good publication they do a great job of local coverage but it’s a minority paper so it is limited in content. The Ledger-Enquirer is worth less than a roll of toilet tissue. They do hardly any local news anymore it’s more about stories from the Associated Press to use a space fillers or plastering someone’s mugshot on their pages to maintain a certain unwritten agenda. Then we have The Chattahoochee Voice, it’s an e-newspaper so a newer company, but my issue is with no printing costs they should have more content. It’s so limited 3 or 4 articles a day at the most if that. I do respect they only report local news and keep it free unlike the Ledger but give us more. I’m just wondering if anyone else feels Media in Columbus needs to step it up.

I agree that a metro area this large, with Columbus as its major city, could have better coverage. I'd like to see more stories about Ft. Benning, and really enjoyed the recent articles written by former commanders, etc. about their time at Ft. Benning and about Benning's history and connection to Columbus. I'm disappointed in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer being so liberal, and not doing more to promote events and venues in the city. I'd also like to see more "feel good" stories throughout the year, not just during the holidays. I understand that print news is decreasing, as online news, fake and otherwise, grows. I agree that WRBL has an "old feel." I think WLTZ and WTVM are both doing pretty good. All could learn from the folks at Columbus and the Valley Magazine, which is a local high quality coffee-table type magazine.

I’ve looked at Columbus and the Valley Magazine. They are a very good publication. I look at some of the suburban publications like The Opelika Auburn News and Lagrange daily news. They are great publications that cover their cities very well. A friend of mine in east Alabama told me it’s because Columbus media does a poor job of covering places like Opelika, Auburn, Valley, and Lanett. They have requested to the state to change their local programming to Montgomery stations.

TV markets are set at the federal, not state level, and LeeCo's not going to change markets. And I'm pretty sure every cable package in Auburn/Opelika includes at least one of the Montgomery broadcasters already.

Coming from S FL, the news reporting was a shock to say the least. I was used to local morning news from 5a-9a, 11:30-12p, and then 5-7p news options. It was not only the ugly stuff, but so many activities that were going on. I don't know 1/4 of the area events like I did in FL.

I would love to go into my opinion of the news anchors here, but I will keep that to myself.

I love WPLG in South Florida. They by far are one of the best media sources in the country. They are owned by Berkshire Hathaway. The same company that owns the Opelika Auburn news. Their quality of reporting is a lot better and more informative than the larger regional paper the Ledger. Which I have now learned is nicknamed the 12th Street rag.
