Yes because the metro area grew over 2k. That's a good amount of growth outside metro ATL.

You're using two different Census definitions: the older one (without Lee County) and the newer one (with Lee). Older one: 294,000 to 305,000. Bottom line: Columbus's gain since 2010 is actually less than all other GA cities except Albany and Macon.

It sure didn't help that Obama cut Ft. Benning and caused the Columbus area to lose some 17,000 people.

You mean Stewart and Talbot counties, because Lee Co has a population of over 150k, not the 12,000 your math indicates and is not part of Columbus metro.

And modest growth is still growth and the opposite of the population decline prediction which was being discussed last year.

Chatham should be a concern. Only large county to lose population.

That 0.022% decline really isn't a concern from a population standpoint, maybe from a healthy housing market one though. With the proliferation of AirBnb's in cities like Savannah, the housing market is squeezed a little, prices are going up from the rise of secondary homes being purchased that sit empty unless hosting a guest.

There are a couple blocks in the historic district where nearly half the homes are now AirBnb's. I bet that -65 population in Chatham County could be tied to that.

It's a smaller effect here in Columbus too, there are more than a handful of homes in the District which are full time whole house AirBnB's. Though our housing market's not exactly squeezed too tightly yet, nor will it likely ever get to that point. But in cities like Savannah this could cause some unintended issues which aren't traditionally signs of a healthy city, i.e. a miniscule drop in population. Anyways I'm sure the neighboring counties absorbed that -65 and more.
