Commute from Peachtree City to Columbus, GA
I'm considering moving to Georgia to work for Aflac in Columbus. Does anyone know what the commute would be like from Peachtree City, GA? I want to live as close to Atlanta as possible due to the fact that my girlfriend is going to be working in Atlanta. Would this be a manageable commute? Are there any better cities in between Atlanta and Columbus that allows us to live in a nice community with decent schools and things to do?

Peachtree City is an hour and half or so (maybe longer to the AFLAC office).
That is a long way to drive everyday.

You may want to try North Meriwether County and/or South+Central Coweta County.

Fayette Co. is also two hour cummute to Columbus but a 20 minute commute to downtown Atlanta. I would agree with moving to Meriwether Co. (45 minute cummute to atl) or Coweta County (30 min cummute to atl).

You wouldn't be the only one at Aflac who's living up that way. I worked on a software implementation project there for about 8 months, and a fair number of people I came in contact with were living in the suburbs of Atlanta (particularly the Newnan/Peachtree City area). Honestly, while the time in the car is comparable, I'd say it's an easier commute in many ways than for someone commuting from the same area to the Perimeter Center area -- you just get on I-85 South, peg the cruise control on 78 mph, and keep it between the lines -- as long as you remember to get on I-185 at LaGrange you're golden. As long as you like listening to NPR or audiobooks or something in the car you could do worse.

^Yeah, but the expense could get large if/when gas prices soar again.
Your best bet is to move further south into southern Coweta County. That would help a lot. Plus, depending on where your gf works in Atlanta, if she doesn't want to drive, there are Xpress Buses from Newnan to downtown Atlanta, which would be convenient for her. You would also shorten your drive to and from Columbus.

Peachtree City is a nice community. It is a good drive from midtown Columbus where Aflac is located. Other communities to consider would be Senioa (think I spelled that correct) Newnan, East Newnan, and Hogansville. Lagrange is also a nice sizeable city about 45 minutes from Columbus and 1 hr-1:15 min. from downtown Atlanta, Ga. I live in the Columbus metro area and it is a great community to work and live in. I have actually met Mr. and Mrs. Amos, the founders of Aflac and they are the two nicest people you could meet, very down to earth. Feel free to ask me any questions.
