Moving the discussion...

Mom2, at least this response seems like a more thoughtful and considered post. If you want to have an honest discussion about the issues of Columbus, north Columbus and South Columbus, I'm up for that. And that your perspective is from both a former Columbus resident who's now a resident of one the wealthiest counties in the nation helps understand where you're coming from too. But to issue such a blanket statement that you wrote in your original post, well you sounded like some of the people like BJohnson who's very narrowly focused on what he perceives as bad and zero progress. In your original post, you made broad and therefore erroneous statements (like lack of culture) and generally tried to make Columbus sound like a scene from slumdog millionaire. I'm glad you at least acknowledge that's not the case.
You've raised some interesting, thought provoking and valid points. But for the rest of this discussion, I've opened another tread, since this one is meant to be discussing issued surrounding BRAC's and Kia's impact on the region.
Find the new post at here.

Bjohnson, if you care to read my posts, you'll find I'm hardly a cheerleader. I criticize areas and policies of Columbus that I might find frustrating, or behind the times or whatever before anyone. However, I also see progress in areas. That is vastly different from someone who makes broad sweeping statements about an entire area of a town, or town or even metro area. Such statements are obviously only meant to incite negative responses and are seen for what they are by most reasonable people. You've lost your credibility.

Your facts on the South Lumpkin trailer park are way off.(as well as a few other statements)
That was what threw up a red flag with me and the other poster and sadly hurt your credibility as well.
I think we can all agree that Columbus has more slum than progress unless perhaps you are biased for some reason.

Please enlighten me with the facts on the trailer park. But please, either show me the evidence or point me to it, otherwise, it's just heresay. I won't deny I have some bias, this is my home. What of it? But neither do I go online and point out the faults of your home (which is where?) and try to deny any good points exist.
There are lots of low income areas, yes. Like all metro areas, and nearly every single city. This is after all a mostly free nation. People own private property and are for the most part allowed to maintain it the way they see fit.
