Muscogee County QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau
While you are at it, take a gander at some of the other counties with medium size cities. Such as Richmond, Bibb, Clarke and Chatham. Have fun.
By the way, please give me the names of other medium size cities in GA that has the following for its youth.
Hockey Teams
Swimming teams
Lacrosse (High school)
Ice Skating Rink (to be built this year)
BMX (Track)
Biking/Walking trail (building now)
This is in addition to the traditional football, baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, day camps, weekly camps and educational camps...

Actually there are NUMEROUS SMALLER cities in GA that have had most of these for YEARS...
The 24 percent poverty quote was at Commerce meeting last december and suprisingly it was families with children 5 and under!
BRAC and the oncoming population problem for Columbus citizens that has been sold to them as gold is noted below.......................and can realistically explain the cities poverty and infrastructure problems.
Each person added to a city population costs the public between $5,800 and $7,800, finds a new report by Carrying Capacity Network. Network will release the findings of its report at a news conference this month. Population growth both in and on the edge of towns and cities does not pay for itself. The tax burden on existing residents increase because of the cost in expanding publicly-funded infrastructure and services to accommodate new growth......
Now please explain the upcoming "oasis" to everyone...multiply the low end of $5800 per person by the amount of BRAC influx and the tax figure left to city residents is off the charts..
This also explains the extremely low 5700 pop growth for Columbus in the last 8 years.

Which "Commerce meeting? Who said it? NEWS FLASH!!! The majority of people living in poverty are children and that's in every city and hamlet in the Unites States of America.

Please explain how extra jobs will create more poverty.

Right Wing propaganda. This group should be happy with Columbus population growth over the past 8 years. Unfortunately for them with the shear number of people coming in the next 2 to 4 years, they're going to be very disappointed with this "po dump" town and "arm pit" of the Valley.
Now please explain the upcoming "oasis" to everyone...multiply the low end of $5800 per person by the amount of BRAC influx and the tax figure left to city residents is off the charts..
Says who? Your facts and figures so called are from some right wing group that I should believe, because...? I never ever espouse Right or Left wing nuts.I have never said it was going to be an "Oasis" and could care less. Fortunately for the state of GA at least one area of the state will have real momentary growth.
This also explains the extremely low 5700 pop growth for Columbus in the last 8 years.
Compared to other cities, such as Savannah, Macon and Augusta that's good.

I have given credible information on every statisitic I have given. I think everyone is ready for you to give a credible post for once....that is why everyone reads right thru your responses. I will be happy to do some research on that. In the meantime, please keep reading all of the positive articles that have been written about Columbus lately.
Cheers

Back on topic... I just left the KIA plant this afternoon, finishing up the work for our current scope of work. I will no doubt be back to do some work on the paint building as it is nearly completed. There is another building breaking ground even as we speak. That being said... I still do not see an economic 'boom' happening because of this plant. Help? Yes. But 'boom'? No.
(My two cents.)

If Selig is as credible as it gets then this discussion is over....
Anyone can make a prediction but the facts are solid and clear as many other posters have brought to your attention as well.
