Downtown is probably the least ghetto of all. Most of the stuff downtown is new.

Columbus1984, welcome bro, I'm about to graduate from Terry with a b.a. in Marketing and an emphasis in sales. Good to see another well educated person on the forum who does not get on here just to talk ****. Anyways, every city has it's rough areas, and Columbus happens to have less than the average Southern city. I cannot wait to move back to Columbus considering Athens has "projects" that are throughout the city. Columbus did a much better job with zoning the city. The Georgia girls sure do look nice though...

Check some of the other area's of the State for Metro area hospital layoffs, you might be surprised. By the way, the new unemployment rates came out today, Columbus MSA was 8.8% for the month of February, bad, very bad. It's all relative. Atlanta unemployment has doubled in one year | ajc.com

King_IX,
Considering that Macon is the poorest and the least safe (crime wise) of all second tier cities in Georgia... show me where I have exaggerated. Show me where I started a single thread to bash Macon. Show me where I have made an outlandish claim or that I did not back up a claim by some data. Have I had fun teasing and bantering back and forth with RundownMacon and yerocal? Yes. But exaggerate? You are gonna have to show me that. I have spent time in each and every second tier city and believe it or not, I have formed my opinion of each. These opinions are mine and mine alone. Although I have been waiting for someone to make me reconsider my opinion (regarding any of these cities), it has yet to happen.
Did I say Columus was the greatest, bestest city of all? Nope. Have I said that Augusta was tons and tons nicer than even Macon? Naw. Where is the exaggeration? What I have done, if you really look, was to knock down those unrealistic claims you mentioned.

Well you see thats the point I was making to people like Bulldawgfan. All of those are about equally as ghetto.
|
Find me one post that I made that said that any one city was more ghetto than another. You will not find it. You might have been trying to make a point to me... but you did not.

So has Grady in Atlanta, The Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, etc......what's your point???? Weak argument, you need to try harder than that.

Let's get back on topic please. Remember, the OP is about what Columbus is like. I've gotten a lot of great info and truly appreciate it. Any other info good or bad would be appreciated.

You obviously have not followed many threads here. This is standard for the Georgia
board. Really... take a look around. Staying on topic is not the norm. No disrespect meant... but what else could possible be said? We are talking about a city in which maybe five or six people who post here regularly live. You got four pages. That is amazing in it of its self.
My first post on this thread was in fact about Columbus. I got called delusional. Then someone tried to make a carry over point from another thread. I responded. Status quo for around here, trust me. You got more on topic than most... I think its due the star next to your name.

No argument just facts...
The discussion is about Columbus and not its relation to other cities.
You say it is booming and unfortunately you cannot grasp the fact that the city has been in decline for several years.
This includes the years when the economy was in your words and SELIG booming.
Population growth from 2000-2008 was less than 6000 people....lol
Case closed.....

The area is nice, I left for 10 years, but I have been here now for about 20 years. I have watched the Cities of Columbus, Auburn and Opelika transform themselves, without loosing there distinctive charm. Phenix City is struggling with its identity, but I am sure it will find itself. Most of the population growth is in Lee County, AL and Harris County, GA. So, the CSA population has grown, but Columbus the cit has had very little growth in population, but it has not suffer a loss of population like other cities of its size in the state since the 2000 census.
Most of the civic growth is actually in Columbus. The government leaders are doing an oustanding job. Plenty for children, youth and adults to do, from sports to ballets. My advise, if you are actually looking to move here, visit for about a week. Bring your GPS and tour the area, the whole area, not just Columbus.
As you can tell the Georgians love a good fight, even if they have to beat up each other. I hope this helps. I'm sure some of those who dislike Columbus for various reasons, will fill you in with their personal view also.
