Not sure what Lee county has to do with my previous post?
All Columbus has ever had are just numerical estimations/guesstimates and just don't have the financial firepower and aggressive forward thinking city council to get the job done as previous posters have said and are getting desperate for any attention they can gain.
It seems like the local community would rather just take what they can get it from what I have seen for years.
Auburn/Opelika/Newnan/Peachtree City areas have had substantial growth year after year even with 9/11 and recent recession.
As another poster remarked "Something is wrong there but I cannot put my finger on it".

Yea, Auburn has lost a lot of jobs here lately too. Ever here of BFG?????? Least we have BRAC, Aflac, NCR, etc. to look forward to

BFG was worn out and the city will have most of the workers retrained and working at the new industrial park on the west end within 6-12 months which is fantastic.
Columbus has lost countless companies even during prosperous times and never lifted a finger to help those out of work.
I think we are talking about much more than the current job situation anyway especially in your cities dire situation mainly due to a massive lack of MONEY!!
Columbus has spilled more than it ever drank making your response much too generalized, speculative and brash.
Please reread my post as you are shooting blindly from the hip.

I know, lost in all the clutter. Let's see, Auburn and Opelika are located in which county in AL? Lee County is one the fastest growing counties in AL. Auburn is not growing nearly as fast as Lee County. Most of the growth is outside the city limits of Auburn and Opelika. Southern Lee county is where most of the growth has been for the last 20 years. By the way, check the stats on the counties which Peachtree City and Newnan resides. The actual numbers might send you into shock. So make sure a medical professional is nearby to assist in the case of cardiac arrest. I will help you put your finger on it. Newnan and Peachtree City are mostly bedroom communities. Any industrial growth in those areas would be statistically significant. If you basically start at "zero" and start adding something, well the numbers say you have had significant growth.

This just reinforces my point even more as Columbus is even further into the negative than any of the areas you are speaking of.
Thanks for making my point.

Try again. This time post stats, not your gut feeling.

Like I've said before. I'm one, two, three, four... steps ahead of you.

There goes that gut feeling again. Give us facts my friend. We want numbers from a creditable source ,State or Federal will suffice.

JLA is correct. Majority of Lee County's growth is in southern Lee County right across from Columbus. Those people work and shop in Columbus, not Auburn. Reason is because taxes are lower, same reason people live in Cobb and Dekalb and work in Atlanta. Plus, there is more land to develop there than in Columbus.
As for Columbus losing jobs, it has lost jobs just like any city but we have gained a lot in the process. Aflac, NCR, BRAC, Lance, Road America, FedEX, etc. Graal is looking to bring 300 position with an expansion in Columbus or right outside Fort Benning. Read the articles that have been posted. Columbus is poised for great things from here on out.

Columbus(Muscogee County) has more land to develop than Lee County??....You have got to be kidding!!
Don't take it upon yourself to add in surrounding areas either as Lee could do the same.
Actually you and JLA are incorrect as most Lee county residents prefer Auburn/Opelika for shopping the area is much more modern and safer.
I do not think having a lower sales tax is much of a draw at all anywhere unless you are buying a car etc.
Columbus unfortunately has been losing jobs/companies for years even during the boom days and is so far behind at this point it really doesn't matter what they do as it is a matter being too little too late.
You will never hear of outlying cities taking credit for what Columbus has or does but rather blaze their own trail.
Columbus tries to take credit for other cities gains as if they had something to do with it.......very strange indeed.
I guess it comes with the territory....lol

Read my post again. I said Lee County has more land to develop because Columbus is almost built-out except for extreme eastern and northern Muscogee County. Columbus has been gaining jobs here lately, you apparently don't stay on top of things very well. Yes, the city has lost jobs just like A/O has lost lots of jobs too. However, Columbus is about to have BRAC, Aflac, NCR, etc coming on board which will create thousands of new jobs. Columbus doesn't take credit for anything ROFL....it just makes things happen compared to other cities . Columbus has blazed its own trail for years. That is why we have several Fortune 500 companies, a Fortune 1000, and many other good companies. What other city with 200,000 people has the quality of companies that Columbus has?? Hmmm let me think....oh that's right, NONE!!!! Columbus has The Rivercenter for the Performing Arts which is probably one of the nicest facilities around. We also have a great Civic Center, museums (new National Infantry Museum is simply amazing), excellent convention center, nightlife downtown, and good shopping/restaurants. Give it up man.
