Any Visits from Jehovah's Witnesses lately? (Powder Springs: sales, city hall, homes)

Anyone else annoyed with them? They were roaming around my neighborhood recently. I was accosted in the Wal-Mart parking lot by one last week. She handed me my complimentary Watchtower and returned to her truck to wait for another. She said they were having trouble catching people at home. Really? FYI: We're not answering anymore. What really gets me is how some bring children with them thinking we will be less rude when they come by to imply that we are sinners. I have a no soliciting sign out but that doesn't really work. If any JW's read this, please tell me what type of sign will make you walk(or run) past my residence?
I live in Powder Springs. The town has an ordinance that requires anyone who knocks on doors in residential neighborhoods to have a permit. They have to go to City Hall and have their I.D. xeroxed, and a permit given to them. This includes sales people, religious groups - anyone who is going to go door-to-door and knock.
If someone from any of these groups ignores my "no soliciting" sign and knocks on my door, I ask for their permit. When they can't produce one, I call the police. I once had a flock of church people held at their minivan while I told the officer I was going to go in to press charges. They were getting ready to cuff them and haul them all in until one of them literally dropped to his knees and begged me not to do it in "the name of the lord". I told the officer I wouldn't have them brought in, but told the guy if he or anyone from his church ever walked my neighborhood again, I'd make all necessary trips to the courthouse to have all of them locked up and prosecuted as much as I could within the law.
Funny thing - I haven't seen them since. I guess that worked.
So the lesson: Check to see if your town/city has any types of ordinances that require permits for knocking door-to-door. If they do, you may actually have legal grounds to put a stop to it.

I for one do not care for JW, for several reasons, but this is absolutely sick, most churches come door to door services to introduce others to Christ not the past judgement, (even though I can't say this for the JW) I can say this for the church, if you are not interested why not just say I am not interested, you never know what your neighbor maybe going through, but doing this hinders everyone. Congratulations, you are the stubbling block of the neighborhood good job.
God Bless
I'm one of those types of people who doesn't like to be bothered much, so yes I can certainly understand where you guys are coming from.
I'm curious and have mixed feelings about greg's comment though.
If a group of solicitors comes to my door, it annoys me, I usually opt not to answer.
However, if the people arent becoming overly "forceful" or overstaying their welcome after being asked to leave and having their services denied......why call the police just because you can??
Thats pretty harsh/cold, BUT, since you said you have a "no soliciting" sign, I can understand a little more. Even with that though, if they're kind and not forcing their views/products on you AFTER you've declined their offer...why call the cops??

Actually, the "no soliciting" sign may as well not be even there. The religious groups ignore it and so do those little magazine punks that work for Atlantic Circulation (ACI). If you haven't been visited by those little liars before, you will one day. Just slam the door in their face and do not feel bad about it.

Why should someone be polite to people who walk past one "no soliciting" sign that's on your mailbox, a second one that is right next to your front door 3" under the doorbell, and past a "no trespassing" sign as you begin up the steps?
I work shift work - sometimes I sleep during the day on weekdays or weekends. Those THREE signs are there for a reason. Should "spreading the word of Christ" exempt people from obeying a permit ordinance a town has and ignoring three signs a resident has asking not to be disturbed? I'm sorry - I see no reason to be polite when I answer the door for people who have zero respect for me.
And actually, I can answer for my neighbors. There are only a few homes on my street. The last time these people knocked on my neighbor's door and ignored the sign he has up, he met them with a shot gun in one hand. I think I was nicer than that. , and it was definitely nicer than a few months ago when another neighbor opened her door to teach these folks about 11 new four-letter words. It was agreed at a neighborhood meeting long ago that we don't want any soliciting of any nature on our street, and that's why most of us have signs, and we all tell these and similar "knockers" to take a hike - and call the cops when they ignore the local laws and our signs. Sorry if that sounds unholy, but I'm not one who thinks "spreading the word" exempts you from respecting other's wishes, and ignoring local laws, either.
The lesson for those who wish to go door-to-door for ANY reason: Regardless if you're selling books, vacuum cleaners, or passing out "free" bibles, ALWAYS check with the local City Hall or Police department to see what local laws and requirements are regarding this. Also, always... ALWAYS... respect signs people have on their property that indicate they do not wish to be disturbed. No exceptions.

No one is saying these things are not your right. What I am saying is that out of respect for God and the work of God I would no treat a church knocking on my door to tell me about God or to share the word of God like someone trying to sell me candy. I guess this is because I have a certain level of respect for God. I think we all should have a certain amount of respect for each other when it comes to God I for one would not want to live in a neighborhood where my daughter would see a church member on there knees because they knocked on your door , and honestly my spouse is in Law Enforcement and after 20 years they all say the same. It all sounds unlikely and avoidable you could always be the bigger person and say no, just all about what YOU choose tob do and WHO you choose to show people who you are but I will say this all takes a reverence for God
Again God Bless

I completely agree with your statement. I honestly think that if people treated other people the way they want to be treated, then we would not have all of this craziness going on today (killing, road-rage, and so forth)!
