Wish they would be picky. Arby's and Dunkin Donuts are great but from what I have heard this was going to be a higher end development. Something like Ted's Montana Grill, DSW, California Pizza Kitchen would go great here.

I have heard this forever but where in the world would they put that in Midland? The only spot would be at the intersection of JR Allen and Manchester Expressway close to the new Chik Fil A but there is not enough land for a supertarget much less a target store.

Haven't heard about Ruth's Chris. You are right though, many restaurants will start advertising early well in advance of opening a store. That would be a great addition to Columbus. The new Bone Fish Grill is having one of their best openings ever for a store.
Well unfortunately the old Swift site is no more. Last night it burnt to the ground. But with some cleaning and hauling away of the rubble. Some of the facade could be saved and eventually they could build new and redevelop this.

The one that burned is the one that is downtown. The Swift site in Midland is still there as far as I know.

Publix prepares to open prototype store at Cross Country Plaza

A larger and improved Publix supermarket is scheduled to open in two weeks at Cross Country Plaza on Macon Road as a $10 million remodeling of the city’s oldest shopping center winds down.

The centerpiece of the current project is the 54,340-square-foot Publix grocery store, which is scheduled to open on December 14th.

There also are plans to remodel Cross Country’s upper-level storefronts to match the improvements made to the facade and landscaping down below. That should take place early next year.

Columbus Park Crossing Continues to Grow

Five Guys Burger and Fries, along with Zoës Kitchen, are among the new faces coming to Columbus Park.

The two are locating in a 14,000-square-foot strip shopping building now being constructed on Whittlesey Boulevard at Columbus Park. The center is tucked between a new Longhorn SteakHouse closing in on completion and an existing Arby’s outlet.

Longhorn SteakHouse is projected for an early 2012 opening. Then there’s a Jersey Mike’s deli outlet going into a Rollins Way shopping space in the Bradley Park Drive area. The Manasquan, N.J.-based chain said Friday it should open sometime before Christmas.

Downtown hasn’t been left out of the foodie infusion. Aside from an upscale “E.P.i.c.” restaurant set to open by next March on the ground floor of the Eagle & Phenix loft condo and apartment complex, a more blue-collar eatery is also on the way.

There is also a PeachMac opening in the same center as Zoe's and Five Guys. I am also hearing many rumors of a SuperTarget near Gateway.

That would be awesome. Would it go on the old Swift site? That is a perfect area to be redeveloped.

Hughston Clinic invests $4 million in outpatient surgical center in North Columbus

Hughston Clinic -- looking to meet the growing demand in treating bad joints, hands and feet -- said
Thursday it has invested $4 million into a new outpatient surgical center off Veterans Parkway in North Columbus.

Aptly named Hughston Surgical Center, the 9,000-square-foot facility was constructed atop the magnetic resonance imaging facility at the rear of the main clinic. It will focus on less-complicated outpatient operations such as arthroscopic knee and carpal tunnel procedures on the hands.

The center, open about two weeks, will handle orthopedic injuries to knees, shoulders, elbows, hips, feet and ankles. The new surgical center will have 15 employees, including four registered nurses, two licensed practical nurses, two surgical technicians, and several administrative positions, including a billing and coding analyst and desk clerks.

The facility includes two operating rooms with state-of-the-art surgery and arthroscopic equipment, an eight-bed ward for patient preparation before and after procedures, and waiting and anesthesia rooms. The clinic noted its surgery suites will feature large windows with views of the outdoors, meant to calm patients undergoing procedures.
