Columbus's second Kia dealership will be opening in the Columbus Park area this May. The dealership will be be 35,000 sq. ft. and will cost $7.5 million. It will have 400 cars on the lot. It is anticipated to be the largest Kia dealership in the Southeast.
The new high school, which is being constructed on the same site as the old high school on 8th Street, is still weeks away from being completed, but construction is on schedule.
The 225,000 square foot high school will have 67 instructional units. It will also have a gymnasium, performance hall, football practice field, competitive fields for softball and baseball and a four-lane rubberized track. There will be an ROTC firing range and private practice rooms for band, choral and orchestra.
The school capacity will be 1,250 students and there will be 428 parking spaces.
The $37.2 million project is the first and the most expensive building on a list of projects funded by the 2009 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. It was designed by the Atlanta firm Gardner, Spencer, Smith, Tench and Jarbeau Architects. Construction is being handled by a joint venture of Columbus-based Freeman & Associates and Atlanta-based Balfour Beatty Construction.
It is scheduled to be completed next month.
