Hi, I'm relocating to Southeastern Ohio when I sell my house. Grew up in Lancaster, Ohio. Had lots of 4H friends. Am 57, young at heart, love my 2 Collies, and looking forward to settling down in a rural area near Athens. Any one out there? Cherry Tree

I live in Athens now, but in the process of moving...I woudl not recommend Athens, it is a college town. Just my advice. I love Lancaster..why not go back there?? If I had a chance I would.

I'm moving to the Vinton County area this summer from Columbus, Ohio. The geography is amazing. We've been house hunting a little, haven't met too many people yet. We're looking mostly at McArthur and Wellston - about 35 mintues west of Athens.

Hi,
I grew up in Meigs County (the county to the south of Athens). I went to Ohio University for undergrad - graduated in 2002 and moved to Dayton in 2003 and still live in Dayton now. Athens is definitely a college town. The university is the town in one sense but in another, it isn't. Most of Athens County is very rural. Most of the professors and students live downtown or within about 15 miles of the university. There are lots of bars downtown that appeal to the student population but there are a few down there that are more "towny" oriented. The city pretty much dries up in the summer when the students aren't around so you can get some down time. One cool thing about Athens, having grown up in Meigs County, is that because of the school being there, there are lots of cool small businesses downtown that otherwise would probably not be there. But, just so you know, southeastern Ohio in general is a fairly depressed place (some of the poorest counties in Ohio). The people however are pretty amazing and Athens county is one of the most diverse counties in Southeastern Ohio. If I were going to move back to Southeast Ohio, I would definitely choose Athens. Also, there a lot arts oriented things to do in Athens/Nelsonville so if you like the arts, you won't be totally bored. Peace, CLH |

I camp at Old mans caves campground alot and just love it, its in Hocking. I went to school and family lives in Wellston but not much there...Pilsbury/General Mills is about all the employment there other than fast food and convenient stores. Wellston use to be Beautiful but town has ran down alot. Roads aren't taken care of anymore. McArthur is a nice place but again no work there either except Austin Powers....I think Hocking would be my choice if I was moving........Dodrill Reality out of Mcarthur could help with finding a house or land
