sjtigers, Grove City is fine. And if you are looking for extremely affordable housing in the Columbus area that is in a fairly safe area look into the Obetz/Hamilton township area. Lots look down on this area, however I find it to be a nice place to live AND the housing is extremely affordable. hth

Hi....I lived in Grove City for 12 years and I loved it. I find the crime is no worse there than Hilliard or some other places. It has grown so much since I first moved there in 95. I recently moved to Hilliard although I am trying to move back to Grove City. I am looking for a nice low income one BR or studio apartment. Would anyone know of any in GC? Thanks......Ann |

Is Grove City a bad place?
No! I actually consider it a very nice place! ![]() Most of the people saying bad things about Grove City tend to be insufferable yuppie snobs from other parts of the County (esp. the NW and NE 'burbs). As others have already stated here, Grove City has a good-sized population of folks with rural and/or blue-collar backgrounds. This is also true of Groveport and Obetz, two other south side suburbs. I've generally found the people there to be friendly, unpretentious, generous and fun to be around. To me this is REAL, normal, middle-class America! ![]() To an elite hoity-toity stiff from Dublin, these are "dumb hillbillies, rednecks, dirty, gun-owning rubes" etc. ![]() I guess it depends who you talk to, but I'd rather hang out w/folks in Grove City any day of the week! ![]() |

wooooooooooooooooooooo there cowboy. I am from dublin and when I first moved here in 98 I lived in grove city. It was a lot different than it is now. I wouldn't say it is bad, some areas need a little attention I think, and we moved back last year to grove city and promptly moved back to dublin because one week into the schools there I get a letter that southwestern city schools are on academic probation. I didn't want my son to have to deal with a failing school district. I love the downhome feel of it, but I also love dublin and the schools up here are better. Just a fact. Please dont place a whole city of people into that category saying well basically we are snobby because we aren't. I lived in grove city for a total of 2.5 years, just moved due to that school situation.

I just noticed the crime index is rather high in Grove City, compared to other areas. I haven't noticed anything or had any problems when I've visited, but has anyone living in this are had any problems or heard of any specific issues relating to the crime level?

I currently live in Grovecity and I can't wait to leave. The school system is in a financial nightmare(super just resigned today) Taxes going up yearly. On some days I can drive from GC to hilliard faster than going from 71s down stringtown rd to hoover rd. If you like to eat we do have a restaurant about every 1/8 block!! My opinion unless you like traffic high taxes stay away. As far as the schools they are not Grovecity school's they are in the southwestern city school system that encompasses a large area. GC used to be a gem in columbus not anymore. Now I know some are going to say taxes aren't that high, but when you look at what you get not including the city is giving away 10 year tax abatements for more and more of these 9.00 per hour crappy warehouses...Residents loos but the schools loose more because the tax burden falls back to the homeowner.

I have lived in GC for a year, and I liked it. It reminded me of the town I grew up in so it was great for me. We are moving more towards Dublin since that is where our church is and work for me is. But I love GC, great little town, starting to really grow.

I have family that live in Harrisburg which is a small town just outside of GC.
I liked GC...IMHO, it has alot to offer and the growth it's experiencing as of the past few years can only have a positive effect. |

Not trying to be a downer here.
But I'm not from Ohio, and have lived in GC for several years. I've found resistance to change here, and a very strong split among the well-to-do and the not so. I've heard stronger than usual openly biggoted comments and been aware of teens that are undirected and what seems like a higher-than-typical use of drugs in the schools. I've also seen a very very strong use of alcohol among the adults in this city. Low tolerance and rigidity are the bad points. Still there are some kind and gentle people living here, it's not all bad. There is a sense of 'old GC' and it's people, there doesn't seem to be a way to break through this control of the old and their status quo. I'm ready to move |
