Columbus Public Schools -- Homepage

That is the website for the columbus public schools, you can give them a call and their office will be able to tell you how open enrollement works, meaning how you can enroll your child in a different school than the one they are assigned.

Here's a list:

Worthington Schools (12% or so minority -including Asian, African-Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans) - Excellent teachers, caring student body, very low violent crime...Check out the historic district -Old Worthington...My children attended school there and I am exceptionally pleased with their education.

Dublin Schools (.06% African American) - not diverse and not welcoming to "others" - a "new" money town. Excellent education. Pick your battle.

Upper Arlington - Excellent schools, old money. More accepting than Dublin.

Grandview - Excellent schools. Exepnsive area - but, "artsy" - true neighborhood feel.

Stay away from Columbus Public unless your children win the lottery for the Columbus Alternative (it's PRIMO - its education rivals the big money suburban schools)

Bexley is a good school and a good area to live in as well. Old money...

St. Charles (Bexley), Columbus Academy, Columbus School for Girls (Gahanna), Bishop Watterson and DeSelles (North - Karl/Morse Roads) are good private schools.

Living in the German Village area I have this to say about School districts. When people do leve this neighborhood it usually is for better schools or they get relocated for their job. The most popular districts that people move to from this area are Bexley and Grandview. Both have the same neighborhood feel and offer shops and activities within walking distance. Bexley and Grandview have top rated schools. Both also have a good arts culture.

Most of the familes in the German Village area do use private schools, however there are a few great schools right here in the Village, Stewart Ave Elementary is one of them. However it is a lottery school.
When you do move here don't forget to take in a free play by the Actors theater in Schiller Park.

We have lived in Westerville for the past 10 years. Both our kids are in the Westerville school system and it is excellent. Westerville has an option for magnet schools that most other local districts around here (other than Columbus public) do not. It is based on a lottery system, but we were able to eventually get both our kids into one of the magnets. We also have an excellent gifted program, which my kids are also part of. I'd recommend you check into Westerville schools before making a decision.

best two districts in this area are, Dublin and Upper Arlington...both got A+ on their report cards that just came out. I love Dublin schools and they are very proactive should a child fall behind, they also have a ZERO tolerance for violence in the school and take it very seriously.

I think the dublin schools are plenty accepting I completely disagree with your figures and the racial ratios too.

I would not characterize Dublin (as a whole) as a friendly community. It is more on the uptight, status-conscious side. Grandview has the urban uptown/artsy feel with good schools that the initial poster was looking for.

How are Groveport schools and the area? I heard from some to stay away from Groveport and some said it was nice.

We do not reccomend Columbus city schools at all. They are probably some of the worst schools with the worst standards in the state of Ohio. It's not there fault it is the iner-city children then the teachers who always have to expect something because it would be dangerous to let down there gaurd. All large city schools are like this w/ some exeptions to students and teachers. We recommend Dublin city Schools and others neer by. You Decide -Stolly Enterprises

One of the best school systems in Columbus is located in Upper Arlington. Upper Arlington has been well known for their wonderful academic programs, best knowledge centers, and very high school standards. Upper Arlington has one of the best school centers for children in the state of Ohio. UA has a very good school program for students if that is what you are looking for. I recommend Upper Arlington.
