Relocating to Columbus - Good Schools?
Hi, We are relocating to Columbus this fall and are looking for the best school system. We have looked into the area around Schiller's Park to possibly move to. We would like to live in an area that is somewhat artsy and has good schools. Any input would be appreciated!

Shiller park is german village
The columbus schools that you would attend if you live in german village are not known for being the best, they combine with many poorer blue collar neighborhoods to the south and east of German Village.
But columbus city schools do have open enrollement, so you can send your kid to one of the stronger schoools (usually would be the ones in the clintonville,NW columbus neighborhoods) that is because those schools have the lesser poverty issues.
Generally, Shiller Park is a nice area, very expensive, but children there usually attend private schools when from one of the better off families in the nice homes.

Although technically not part of Columbus, you may want to check out Bexley too. It is very close to downtown, and if you didn't know it would think it was just part of the city. The area around Main St is developing very rapidly, and may have the type of atmosphere you desire. Their schools are annually rated as top notch too.

If I moved into any area in Columbus that has about say 5 different schools in the area, can I choose which school to send my kids to?

Schiller Park - probably not going to give you the best school choices. You have to be VERY careful when buying a house anywhere in Columbus. Go one block too far and things get sketchy, no matter where you're at. I'd say RENT for a while, see what your options are. I've been here for a year and I'm still unsure where I'd pick to live because there's so much variety. Here are some places with good schools:
Grandview
Upper Arlington
Worthington
New Albany
One of the villages, German, Italian, Merion (if you opt for private schools)

Shools
The best schools are definitely St Charles Prep. Columbus School for Girls and Columbus Academy. Tuition is about 12K each per year. Bexley, Grandview, and Upper Arlington are very good, too. The best Columbus Public Schools are Columbus Alternative, Eastmoor Academy and Fort Hayes Arts Academy. Good luck

In the Columbus Ohio area you will find that the school boundries are fuzzy. You could move to one City and end up in another City School district. In some instances you can move to the City of Columbus but get a better School district such a Dublin (an excellent district). Good luck in your move.

'somewhat artsy' - That doesn't really describe New Albany at all. New Albany is almost the opposite: an ultra-planned community (with kind of a stiff and stuffy feel). New Albany may be nice and has a good (but not the best) school system, but I don't think it is what the original poster is looking for. Bexley and Grandview both have school systems that are at least as good as New Albany's and have a more artsy feel. streetcreed also presented some other good options.
