Default Hispanic community in Columbus

Im Puerto Rican from New York moving to Columbus and I jus have a few questions about the hispanic community there in Columbus.. How big is it? What's the main Hispanic nationality: Puerto Rican, Mexican? How is relations between Hispanics and blacks, whites, as well as relations between Puerto Ricans and Mexicans. What areas of Columbus do Hispanics mostly live? Thanx in advance

The largest group is Mexican, by far. The Hispanic community overall is growing at one of the fastest rates in the country, and more than doubled in the last 10 years. The West Side has been the main area, mostly for the Mexican population, but that has been slowly spreading around the city in recent years. As far as relations go, I haven't seen anything to indicate that there are any serious issues, but maybe other people have seen things I haven't. For the most part, they seem to be doing just fine.

Northeast parts of Columbus are heavily populated with hispanics as well along with a large African population.

I would also like to point out that Columbus is in no way like NYC in terms of overall diversity. It's getting better, and quickly, but I would be cautious in having your expectations too high.

Interesting. I'd imagine the ACS was undercounting as well.

Well, the metro stats are going to be different from the city stats. The % of Hispanics just for Columbus was 5.6% at the 2010 Census with a population of 44,359, which was the vast majority of Hispanics in the metro area. This was up from 2.5% and 17,471 in 2000.
