Default Relocation, is the area between Bexlay and Whitehall safe??

Hi, guys, I am moving to Columbus, and my friend found a nice place for me. It is located between Bexlay and Whitehall, close to E Broad St. Can any of you tell me how safe it is? Or how is the neighborhood in that area? Thanks.

If you're talking about the area around James Road.......It depends. If it's west of James Road, I'd consider it. East of James Road, no way. The Hampton Road/Waverly Street area has quite a bit of gang activity, not to mention that the area is rather poor.

Thanks wGoshen, I think I should be very careful. At the day time, is it better? I think I should install alarm system at my place which is just on the east side of James Road...My friend told me, there are many families with children there....I thought it is kinds of safe....but may not...now

Daytime should be fine. That's usually the safest time of the day, even in the down right rotten neighborhoods. I would definitely do an alarm system.

I'm sure that if you take the right precautions and don't associate with the wrong people, you'll be just fine. It's just not the first area I'd choose.

If you want, you could look a mile or so east in Whitehall, around Mayflower Blvd. I think the prices are similar and it's quite a bit safer.

I'm leery just driving through that area in the very few occasions I have to. Actually living there ? Hell no.

I fully agree with wGoshen's take. West of James the area is called Eastmoore and I would consider it a very safe place to live. We live in Bexley, have many friends in Eastmoore and have no concerns about their neighborhood. As you move East of James it starts to feel less residential with more strip malls on Broad St and lots of rental properties which always seems to be an indicator of a less savory crowd.

I don't think you need to go as far as buying a gun. I just wouldn't leave anything in my car at night or see if you can get the use of a garage. I think you are more at risk of petty theft in that area than anything violent.

Pretty much anywhere in Bexley is safe. Bexley is actually an enclave within Columbus so they have their own police force that are very active and visible in the city limits. Kenwick Road is actually Berwick which another reasonably nice area with lots of families. The mayor of Columbus lives there. I would still keep your car empty at night or park it in a garage just because of the proximity to the areas we spoke of previously but I think you would feel quite safe there otherwise.
