I didn't have a car for the first 8 years i lived here. I found it to be very difficult to find work, not to mention very difficult to get to the few attractions we have here. If you live near downtown, getting out to Polaris or Easton would be horrible.. doable, but horrible. If this city wasn't so sprawled out and we had more density to our core, then I think a car-less life would be doable.. As it is right now, I would say no.

Cota sucks in every way. I don't drive and have been living here since 06. It takes an hour to two hours to go anywhere. Forget it in bad weather, if a bus is late you risk frost bite or heat exhaustion.
Living downtown gives you access to the bus lines but nice apartments/homes are expensive, who can afford thousand dollar rent? If you want to be close to shopping I'd live near a mall like Polaris or Easton. This is a car city, as is pretty much every city in the us of a with a few exceptions.

Columbus is certainly not like New York, where you can live without a car. In Columbus, to go anywhere, you really need a car. COTA is not feasible for everyday travel.

COTA service outside those areas is pretty lackluster. Columbus is definitely a car-centric city. There are talks from time to time of building light rail, but nothing has come to fruition quite yet. After spending a lot of time in Cleveland, I really wish we them.
Pretty much what I would have said.
