Hey folks, I live in DC but will be in Columbus at the end of September. There will be a big Vespa scooter rally in Columbus and the theme revolves around the late 70s movie "the Warriors."

On this, I was interested in any commonalities Columbus might have with NYC (if any). This can be specific (similar neighborhood/street names/ local businesses called "New York" this or other, NYC style pizza joints, etc) to things that may be of interest that might remind someone of New York.

Of course, any commonalities Columbus has with "the Warriors" are even cooler. For example, are Coney Island dogs a big deal in Columbus? Maybe there's a beach with an amusement park nearby?

Whatever ideas you have I appreciate them. Thanks!

Pedicabs go up and down N High Street on Fridays and Saturdays starting at campus and heading south to the Short North (and perhaps even as far as German Village) area.

There is a restaurant on N High called NY Pizza Department. I highly doubt it is the pizza in town though.

You see an occasional person wearing and I [heart] NY shirt (which bothers me).

The only NYC-style pizza that comes to mind is Sarefino's in the North Market. It's delicious.

No amusement parks nearby that resemble Coney Island. Shame you couldn't have been in town last week for the Ohio State Fair. Though, if you are going to be in the state, you should drive 2.5 hours north to the greatest amusement park on the planet: CEDAR POINT!

The Flying Pizza reminds me of a pizzeria you'd find in NYC with pizza by the slice.

Only neighborhood in Columbus that has somewhat of an NYC feel is the Short North with all of the restaurants, galleries and independent stores.

NYC and Columbus both have people, water and electricity.....that's the only thing similar I can think of.

The comparison is stupid to begin with, honestly. There are only a handful of cities in the entire world that would be in any way seriously comparable to NYC, and to even attempt to make the comparison is silly and extremely unfair. But hey, at least you got the naysayers out to use this as another excuse to bash the city.
