Default Living in Croton... Is the Buckeye Egg Farm still a problem?

My wife and I are looking into purchasing a home in Croton, OH. I've heard (and read) that there used to be a huge problem with flies and pollution from the Buckeye Egg Farm, but I believe it's shut down now. Can anyone confirm that the problem is gone?

What's the general word on living in Croton? We want to be out in the country but most of the area is filled with large corn crops. Since we want to have a few animals (sheep, llamas) and have a few crops of our own... How would their pesticides affect our livestock and crop? Would it spill over and become a problem?

Any info you can provide about Croton would be great.

Howdy Gary!

The Buckeye Egg Farm was finally sold (in 2003, I believe) to new owners who've apparently cleaned the place up considerably, and are much better neighbors according to folks nearby.

Here's an article from 2004 about the Farm's change in direction: Egg farm tries to be good neighbor

Incidentally, I knew one of the attorneys who worked on that case for years, helping to get the old operation shut down. The old owner was evidently a real creep. After being held in contempt-of-court and eventually ordered by the State to shut down, he finally relinquished all his businesses and moved back to Germany. German officials banned him from ever owning animals again!

Fortunately though, that's all in the past. And other than that, Croton today appears to be a very pleasant place to live.

Best of luck to you!
