Question g grandfather in US Penitentiary Columbus Ohio

My great grandfather was an inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary, Columbus, Ohio in 1902. His name was Willie Carr. He was a full blood Creek Indian, from Oklahoma. I have a letter from the Department of the Interior, Commission to the Five Civilized Tribes, to Willie Carr, U. S. Penitentiary, Columbus, Ohio. Descriping the land he was alloted in accordance with Secion Three of the Creek Agreement, ratified May 25, 1901. I know where is allotment is located. I believe I have his parents names, but not sure. Thought I might get some information that was keep by the Penitentiary. Thanks for any help!

If this was the old state pen downtown, they tore it down to make room for a hockey rink and a bunch of yuppie bars.

The Ohio Department of Corrections might have the old files from there.

LOL! Perfect description of what happened, unfortunately.

Although maintaining a vacant, obsolete prison right next to downtown may not have been the best use for that land, it's still tragic to have lost a big piece of our history.

At the very least, they could've restored it as a museum and opened it to tourists.

Yes, the destruction of the Penitentiary was an absolute tragedy. One of the most historic buildings in the country. Could have been saved like the Mansfield Reformatory.

Hi Deanwilliams. Do you know when and where your great grand father was born? Just punching in his name on ancestry.com I came up with a few william Carr(S).
