Easton Gateway « Columbus Underground Messageboard

Next phase of Easton in planning, but it looks like a traditional suburban style development. Kind of disappointing.

No link, but watching NBC 4 news tonight (am back in Columbus until next week), there was a story about the area around the casino and some of the business plans. There is a new Thai restaurant going in on Geogesville in the old Captain D's building and the bowling alley at the corner of Georgest and Sullivant will be going through a major renovation soon.

Clear sailing on Hilliard-Rome | The Columbus Dispatch

At least one road project is done, though all it really does is promote sprawl.

Franklinton lofts plan awaits approval | The Columbus Dispatch

67 new loft apartments coming to Franklinton and a 10,000 square foot bar and restaurant will be opening across the street sometime this fall. The tentative project name is called the Manhatten Project, named because the B&T Metals plant where this development is going once produced uranium for the MP in the 1940s.

Jeffrey residences won?t tower over neighborhood under revised plan - Columbus - Business First

The Jeffrey site is a huge empty area just east of 4th in Italian village. Wagonbrenner took over the site, I believe, last year, and has been working on a development plan. The first building/s to be started there is at the corner of 1st and 4th, will be 3 stories and consist of 267 apartments and 73 townhomes. Not sure why, but the height was reduced from 4-stories. This may be because of the area commission, but that makes no sense considering that there are taller buildings than 4-stories nearby. In fact, I believe the only other building at the Jeffrey site is 4 stories, and it was built within the past 10 years. In any case, construction on this project has a start date of March, 2013.

Panera eyeing Clarmont site as creditor challenges sale - Columbus - Business First

The Clarmont is in the Brewery District/German Village on South High. I really really would much prefer this large site either become a residential/retail building or another large restaurant. A fast-food place would basically just build a smaller building with more parking there. Luckily, it's not a done deal and hopefully a better bidder with a better neighborhood plan comes forward.

City offers grants to draw homebuyers to historic Old Oaks | The Columbus Dispatch

Good news for this neighborhood southeast of Downtown and in an area that has faced steady population loss and decline the last few decades. Average home price there is just $23,000. Quite a deal and given its historic nature and proximinity to Downtown, I'd say that's a pretty good deal.

Part of dam out; project on track | The Columbus Dispatch

Progress on the 5th Avenue dam removal. There's already been a significant difference in water levels and they did not find nearly the level of trash, etc that they were expecting, so cleanup should be much easier. After the rest of the dam is removed, the next phases of the project will create wetlands and deep fish pools.

City is given

Basically, this will be a series of events promoting and identifying creativity within the city. There will be lectures, environmental conferences, a film festival, etc. The city is hoping to make this into a growing annual event.
