Default advice please!!!!

Hi, I'm a graduate student from Puerto Rico moving to Columbus with my husband. I went crazy aboout the german village and fell in love with an apartment at 1116 south high street (2 streets SW from german village). I saw the pictures on the realtors website and the buiding is beautiful as well as the apartment. I send a deposit and later on some peolple is telling me that this is not a good neighborhood to live. I recently read that the german village is surrounded by not too good neighborhoods. I'm very concerned about this. We will not have a car, and we are walking people. I'm afraid I couldn't walk safely, or take a bus with weird people, etc. We haven't sign anything yet, but we'll loose the deposit if we decide for another place. Please advice me on the neighborhood!!!! I'm desperate!!!!

It's a safe neighborhood and it's convenient and has a lot to offer. However, it's overpriced and it does touch some higher crime areas. I would recommend also considering upper arlington near henderson and kenny. It's probably about the same distance to campus.

i dont know about your specific proposed rental and area but it seems that alot of the old charming buildings are in crappy neighborhoods so you must check this out any way youcan. call the realtor and ask them what kind of neighborhood it is.

I wish it were always that simple Nic...but remember, realtors are out to make a buck just like any other salesperson.

I would only ask a realtor if I knew them personally, such as through family or in a social (non-business) setting. That way I'd feel more confident they're being straight-up w/me!

But yeah, I totally "ditto" your point about charming old buildings mostly being in crappy neighborhoods. That's life in the city I guess. Sad...
