Default Dublin vs Powell?

Hello! Some questions on Dublin or Powell

1. between the two communities, where would you live and why?

2. pros and cons of each?

3. we are looking for excellent school systems...we know dublin is excellent. are powell and the olentangy schools just as good or more of an up and coming school system?

4. how would the commute to either osu medical center or riverside hospital be from each community?

5. are home prices in each community comparable?

Similar communities, Dublin a bit "golfie" while Powell more "country."

I don't play golf, and like a larger lot, so I would go with Powell.

Schools are excellent in both areas.

Commute via Rt 315 from both areas, traffic usually is pretty heavy during morning rush hour. Olentangy River Rd is a very good alternative to Rt 315. Slightly easier access from Powell.

Both places have very nice homes, generally from the low $300s to over $1 million. You get comparable homes in both for the money, though Powell tends to have somewhat larger lots. Dublin has some homes under $300 K, that would be a little more difficult to find in Powell.

I would echo NewToCA's excellent description of the two communities.

I'd also add that of the two, Dublin is a tad more status-conscious, while Powell is more laid-back. You might have some very wealthy neighbors in Powell...but you wouldn't be nearly as likely to hear them talk about it constantly

thanks, guys. this is very helpful information. it sounds more and more as if powell might be more up our alley.

also, i know this is a bit of a random and obscure question, but does anyone happen to know historically what college admissions to competitive schools are like at powell?

Well, Dublin is kinda mixed actually. It seems to be million dollar homes or section 8. If you fit in one of those categories, it'd be a nice place to live I guess. If you're somewhere in the middle and DON'T want to live in a condo that's priced a good 50k over the same condo somewhere else in C-bus, maybe it's not the place for you.

You could probably actually buy a HOUSE in Powell.
You'll probably wind up taking 315 from either location - you just may have to jump on 270 to get to 315 though. It can get pretty congested there as you're headed downtown, so you'll want to plan for that in your drive time.

I just checked out the listings of Dublin homes for sale, and found 147 homes currently on the market and listed between $200K and $300K, 265 homes for a listed price between $300K and $600K, 84 homes listed for a price between $600K and $1 million, and 34 for a million or more. This should give you a fairly accurate picture of Dublin housing distribution.
