Default Columbus Zoo #1 in the US? Is it all hype?

Hell no!

Spent the past weekend as a tourist in your lovely city. Stayed in Dublin for the night and went to the Zoo.

(btw what is up with the corn on the cob field of sculptures???)

Wow, what a great Zoo! You guys should be proud, as I am sure you are. We really enjoyed it.
Love the way it is setup and how walkable it is. It's pretty cheap. Parking was easy.
Plenty of not too expensive food.
Our favorite exhibits were the Mexican Wolves and the Polar Bears and the Manatees. They were out playing in the water and the wolves were running around all over the enclosure. I had to go to our Zoo (CLE) 6 times before I ever saw one wolf. The Flamingos were fun, too, because they were all bickering with each other. Never seen ours even move much before. lol Oh, and the Penguins. They were having a ball.
The Aquarium was a bit small but the main aquarium wall was really cool. The Aquarium at our zoo is a little more diverse but we don't have that HUGE wall like yours.

Having also been to the San Diego Zoo I would give a tiny tiny edge to San Diego (#2 in the US) myself, mainly because of the outdoor rainforest and the way they set up a few enclosures to ensure maximum viewing... but overall your Zoo absolutely deserves it's status as #1 in the Country for... what, 4 years now?

We had a great time and we will be back again. The locals were very nice, as well, especially considering so many were dealing with major power outages all over the area. Half the stop lights were still out in Dublin. The restaurants were packed because people wanted to eat in the AC.
Had dinner at BJ's Restaurant. Great Deep Dish Pizza and good beers!

Thanks for the hospitality, neighbors!

It is indeed an awesome zoo. I really enjoy going there. Even when it is really hot there is plenty of ways to cool down. With that being said, I do plan to make another trip there but probably not until closer to fall.

More themed expansions to the zoo will be happening within the next couple of years, and a resort hotel is also in the works, so you can stay right on the property, spend one day at the zoo and another at the waterpark.

O yea, the little cooling stations. My kid had a BALL with those. I think that might have actually been his favorite part. We would spend like 15 minutes at each mister we saw. lol
