Planning to move to Columbus retired to be near our child. We are looking for a place similar to where we presently live near Chicago (Hinsdale). This place has a nice small downtown area with all the amendities; ie. restaurants, banking, cleaners, post office, shopping and has nice small homes or townhomes in walking distance around the $300,000 range. Would this be Worthington or somewhere else?

Worthington would be good, as would Grandview and Upper Arlington.

Worthington would fit that description. I would also suggest Westerville as it also has a nice downtown area and all amendities within walking distance.

Worthington (especially Old Worthington) might be a good fit for you. The downtown is small, but it has a lot going on. There is a farmer's market and a number of restaurants. You can probably find a small home cheaper than $300k within walking distance of downtown, especially if you look in the Wilson Hill neighborhood. There are many retired people in Worthington too. There is a senior center with a lot of activities as does the nationally-ranked library. My Father in Law also makes good use out of the Community Center which is a very short drive away.
