I'm not to familiar with the West Side in Columbus. Are there any nice neighborhoods once you get past Hilltop, or do you have to live in the suburbs like Hilliard? How's Westgate?
Thanks

Westgate is very nice. The surrounding area goes from sketchy to ghetto, but I think that is gradually changing as well.

"West Side" is pretty vague, though and includes the entire western half of the city. In that half, Hilliard, Dublin, Upper Arlington, Grandview Heights, Marble Cliff, etc are all nice areas.

More specifically, I'm looking at neighborhoods not too far from I-70 west of downtown, but also not full of bland, suburban tract housing. I'll check out Westgate and maybe some of the immediate areas around it, thanks.

If you're looking for very cheap housing deals, the area around Westgate and Franklinton would certainly fall into those catergories. East Franklinton, especially, is seeing a lot of resurgence, and I would imagine that buying there right now would be a good investment. That whole area is going to look a lot different in 10 years.

You could also look at some other near-west side neighborhoods that are in better shape, such as Harrison West.

Stay away from the Bottoms or the Hilltop and you should be alright.

Westgate seems to be gaining in popularity. It looks a lot like Clintonville with great older housing stock, but at cheaper prices. There's a nice park, and if I'm not mistaken some new businesses are starting to sprout up (a Liz Lessner restaurant is scheduled to open in Westgate fairly soon). The area is fairly safe, though there are certainly some tough areas to the east of Westgate as you get closer to I-70. Schools in or near Westgate would include Bishop Ready High School (private) and West High School (public).

Does Bishop Ready have a home football field on campus?
