Default Johnstown Ohio ...How rural is it?

Wife and I are relocating to Columbus area, please give us some insight/ real opinions on the Johnstown area in north east Columbus Metro. We are also considering the Grove City area. Thanks much...

Johnstown is horse country! A couple I know, who used to live in Lancaster, moved to Johnstown some years ago, and they love it. They own horses and at least a few head of cattle.

Absolutely beautiful up that way. The town itself is charming. There's maybe one newer subdivision nearby, but for the most part Johnstown is just "too far out in the sticks" for typical yuppies, so developers haven't managed to ruin it yet. (Locals like that just fine, I'm sure ) Johnstown itself has a nice little town square, older buildings, about 5 blocks of homes in each quadrant, and locally-owned amenities you can walk to.

Each year around Labor Day, Johnstown hosts this huge flea market/fair-like event called Swappers Day, out at the sports club. It rocks! Totally down-home, fun atmosphere in a traditional rural setting. Since some of the merchandise there consists of firearms, there's a sign out front that says "all guns - open carry."

Grove City is still really nice as communities go, although it's gotten considerably more suburbanized. Traffic is accordingly horrendous.

It's growing but not sprawling. Johnstown does have more than one new subdivision, but they're on the outskirts (E & W) and haven't caused the downtown to go into a tailspin. The older homes are well-kept, and Columbus isn't that far away. In town there's one strip mall south along 62 anchored with a relatively new Kroger store and CVS, and traditonal downtown stores (hardware, carry-outs) where 62 and 37 meet.
