seems overpriced for only 1400sf. next to highway. Zillow assessed at $34k in 2011 (I assume prior to remodeling)...must be some exotic Brazilian flooring in those hardwoods..

By comparison.

In one of the nicer zip codes in Austin, 78703 (close in, west of downtown), there is only 1 active SF home listing under $450k. 1176sq ft, tiny garage, and backs directly to the highway (the very, very congested highway). $12k/ year property tax. At least its nicely remodeled. And it will probably be pending tomorrow:

I wouldn't put much stock in real estate estimate sites like Zillow.

I guess I should clarify. I was assuming that we were comparing the metro areas themselves, not just the actual city limits. I'm thinking more Austin metro area suburbs such as Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Pflugerville. You can still find considerable house for your money in those places.

Still, Austin is considerably more expensive than Dallas, where I lived. I have yet to live anywhere in the country where your money could take you further than Dallas suburbs.

Again on the average this is true, but if you look at Columbus' sought after areas it isn't cheap by any means.

All cities most desirable places are super expensive. Our house in Houston was 3200 square feet and worth 260k, it was also located 25 minutes from downtown. If we put that same house in River Oaks, or Rice Village it would be worth well over 1 million dollars. I used Houston because it is the area in Texas I am most familiar with. I would imagine that the most desirable places to live in Austin are also very expensive.

And the "sought after" areas in Austin are even more expensive.

Definatly columbus. It's a growing, friendly, diverse, college oriented, thriving city. New neighborhoods are popping up left and right. Columbus is also a college town (capital univ. Oterbine, Columbus college of art and design and of course...OSU) Most people gravitate tward OSU. Awsome schools ( grove city high, worthington, olentangy, dublin, Pickerington North & Central, and many others). There are a lot of business HQs here, lots of parks, COSI, America's #1 Zoo, and many others. I moved here from Atlanta and people thought I was moving to a farm or something, but I absolutely love it here, I bet you would too.
