I was on a Delta flight yesterday and their SKY magazine had a very positive article on Columbus. [Columbus] - Powered by PageTurnPro.com . I didn't check to see if it was paid promototion or an independent article.

columbus is on a roll, and the pub is well deserved..imagine a city in the rust belt, in the shadow of the old dominant cities of cleveland, detroit, pittsburgh and cincinnati, with agrowth rate in the msa that will place it at about 28th in msa ranking in the following 2 census, passing cities like cleveland, msa only, kansas city, cincinnati, etc.counties can be added or subtracted but the growth rate remains above all our midwest peers no matter what combination of counties is used.and as we grow we will get more in the way of entertainment, sports, things in general, and the growth is not so fast that it creates misery liek in houston or even phoenix, where i lived and is just bland

Columbus is in no way, shape, or form in the Rust Belt. Haha and you're extrapolating for the next 20 years? Ok.

Certain extrapolations are a bit more realistic than others. Columbus MSA passing Cleveland's MSA is likely in less than 10 years (and may happen by 2020) provided Cleveland/Akron aren't combined again.

You assume I'm talking about Cleveland only. Maybe Columbus will pass Cleveland, but do you really think it will also pass Cincinnati and Kansas City like the poster said? All the aforementioned MSAs are pretty much the same size. But Cincinnati and KC and other cities like that aren't still shrinking.

Cincinnati I have no idea. Even if current rates stayed the same, it'd be between 15-18 years before Columbus' MSA passed Cincinnati's. Too many things can happen, including MSA boundary changes, growth rate changes, etc. I've never really looked at KC, but it's even larger then Cincy.

i just took the 2013 definitions of msa by the census, and used their growth rates from their data and l calculated it forward, austin will pass columbus, but if the rates remain as posted by the census columbus will pass kc and cleveland and cincy, obviously we cant know what will happen, but the census has way underestimated columbus results the last 3 census, perhaps due to the large foreign immigration numbers, cicnty by the way is larger than kc currently, people really have a hard time accepting the fact that columbus is on the rise, perhaps because ppl in columbus for the most part have no interest in boostering their city.its a weird thing i havent experienced in the other cities ive lived.

And if Austin keeps growing at another 20% increase in population every 10 years, it'll pass New York City sometime. But that's not going to happen. Cities all reach capacity at a point.
