My fiancee and I are moving to Ohio from Florida. He will be working at Wright Pat. I visited Ohio and fell in love with Oakwood. It was the only place I could picture myself living as everything was close and it reminded me of our neighborhood in Florida. Now, I may be (BIG MAY BE) getting a job in Columbus and we need to find a place in between that is similar to Oakwood.

I don't want to drive long and neither does he. Maybe we should just live apart I never driven in snow as I spent all my driving years in Florida. EEEK! What's the best place? We both really liked Oakwood. We will be renting as we don't know how long we are staying in Ohio.

Unfortunately you will not find any towns/cities in between Columbus and Dayton that are like Oakwood. It's fairly undeveloped between the two cities actually. One or both of you will be driving a significant amount as Columbus and Dayton are about 75 miles apart. You might check out London, Ohio - it's going to be closer to Columbus than Dayton, but it's not a bad little town. Springfield is also between Columbus and Dayton, but many parts of it have seen better days. Keep in mind that traffic in Columbus is much worse than Dayton so whoever is working in Columbus will have more traffic delays to contend with once they get to the city. You'd find the Columbus suburbs of Grandview Heights, Bexley and Upper Arlington to be similar to Oakwood, but they'd be quite the hike to Wright-Pat every day.

If you don't mind living apart, then that would probably be the best option.

I posted in your Dayton forum post. It rehashes what Cbus76 has said with some noted additions.

If you are working in Columbus anywhere east of downtown or along the north outerbelt where traffic is always a pain and crap shoot in delay lengths, I would highly suggest living apart until a better situation can arise.

There is a nice little private community outside of London Ohio called Lake Choctaw. My parents live there and one commutes to Springfield and the other to downtown Columbus. Their drives are mostly interstate highways in the winter so they snow isn't much of a problem. If schools are important to you, though, I would do some thorough research. I think London schools are not the best.

Thanks so much. The schools aren't important, we are engaged, have no kids, just a dog. We'd like to avoid rural areas which I know is asking for a lot considering we want to find something between two places. We would probably focus more on the West side of Columbus as Columbus has more to offer.

I will not know about the job for another month or so. I just want to cover all my bases. I have been applying to jobs around Dayton.

Thanks for your suggestions.

If you are focusing on the west side of Columbus, I would highly recommend Grandview Heights and its immediate surroundings, some of which includes Upper Arlington, Marble Cliff and Columbus. All are nice areas worth looking into.

GH is a small, inner-ring suburb similar to Oakwood in certain regards. It is smaller in its incorporated area than Oakwood, and Oakwood isn't all that big. Be flexible as to what you want to rent. Homes are hard to find in GH, but there are plenty of duplex or double homes that are nice. Also, I-670 is an easy reach and will take you straight to I-70 and onward to WPAFB.

Good luck with the search!

Thanks everyone. Still waiting to hear back on Columbus job. We both agree that his commute will be the way to go if I end up with the job. Plus, it has direct flight to St. Pete

Bexley is going to be the most similar to Oakwood, in my opinion.
