Local talk radio?
I like local talk radio hosts, but I haven't had any luck finding any since I moved to Columbus. I've only found the syndicated guys.
Any suggestions?

Slim pickins in C'bus
The ones we have here are all pretty dull, I'm afraid.
Bob Conners, the local "morning monarch" on 610, is very bland and doesn't offer opinions on much of anything. He mostly just reads the news, lets callers talk and interjects the occasional "yeah," "uh-huh" or "o-kay" to whatever is said.
Afternoon drive guy John Corby, I find extremely irritating. He's very dour and cynical; sounds like he's in a perpetually bad mood. And the topics he covers are totally brainless: "embarrassing toilet experiences," "best fraternity pranks," "last time you've vomited," etc. Really sophomoric, stupid stuff...
The sports guys on 1460 are ALLLL about Ohio State. It's the unofficial religion of central Ohio
So for any kind of good talk radio, I stick with the nationally syndicated folks: Rush, Glenn Beck, Jim Rome on sports...

Even though I spent a short time in the Buckeye state, I agree that the talk radio scene was lacking..

LancasterNative left out Joel Riley on 610, mornings from 9-11:45. He's better than the other two, although to Bob Conners' credit, there are really only two types of morning hosts left--the pleasantly dull personality who lets the guests advertise their thing or share their wisdom, and the manic "morning zoo" people. Given the choice, B.C.'s playing his role well. Corby is horrible, but he has a following. Getting his sidekick, Joe Bradley, out of the studio would be a slight improvement. Joe's only purpose is to chuckle loudly, yell "Yeah!", or repeat Corby's supposedly witty remarks for listeners who didn't get them the first time.
However, all is not lost. It's easy to get Cincy's 700 WLW here, and their local people are a lot better. Gary Burbank (3-6pm) is hilarious, but he's retiring at the end of the year. Bill Cunningham (12:20-3pm) is great; his mix of populism and arch-conservatism would be grating if it weren't done just slightly tongue-in-cheek. In fact, none of WLW's personalities are national, although Cunningham fills in regularly for national hosts.

Ahh, great call! Sorry for the oversight (usually I'm listening to Glenn Beck at this time slot, but...) Yeah. Joel Riley is definitely the best among the local guys on 610.
And yes, thankfully WLW 700 from Cincy comes in pretty well around here too

If you can get 570 WKBN out of Youngstown it's pretty good.
http://www.570wkbn.com/main.html You can listen live on their website. I like Rob Verb and sometimes the morning guys are good too.

Cunningham now has a syndicated show from 10pm-1am on Sunday nights. He took over Matt Drudge's old time slot.
Mike McConnell's mid-day show is syndicated M-F and he has a syndicated weekend show on Saturday.

OK, true--since they were initially local hosts at WLW before getting national gigs, I wasn't thinking along those lines. Gary Burbank was also national, briefly (and his Earl Pitts Uhmerikun character still is).

If you have XM satellite radio, WLW can be found in it's entirity on channel 171. ( I listen to WLW as I drive my truck and enjoy Steve Sommers and Bubba Bo (weekends and when Steve's off) on America's Trucking Network from midnight 'til 5. Jim Scott from 5-9 and Mike McConnell from 9-12. Unfortunately, I'm home and headed to bed when Willie's winding up. And I rarely hear Gary Burbank...sigh)
