Columbus is in Franklin County and most of the suburbs that surround Columbus/Franklin county are larger than 10000, so you should concentrate on the surrounding counties -Madison,Pikaway -this is not the correct spelling but for some reason stars are put in it when I spell it correctly,Fairfield,Union,Delaware and Licking. Some of the villages are (Madison County-West)London, W. Jefferson, Plain City, Mt. Sterling, Midway;(Pikaway-South) Commercial Point,Circleville,Orient, Ashville, Williamsport, New Holland;(Fairfield-South East)Lancaster, Pickerington, Baltimore, Millersport, Bremen;(Union-North West)Marysville,Plain City-stradles union & madison counties,Richwood, Unionville Center;(Delaware-North) Ostrander,Radnor,Sunbury, Powell, Lewis Center, Ashley;(Licking-North East)Newark, Heath, Hebron, Utica, Granville. These are the largest small towns, and there are many smaller towns in between. The majority of these counties are rural. If you would like to do a home search by area and/or school district you can send me a private email or message for a link.

Gee provided some great info in the post above.
It might help, however, if you can give us an idea of the side of the city that you will be transferring to. The commute from the more rural areas can be significant, depending on situation. |

Hello there, I live near Ashville, and it is a nice litte quaint town. The school system is Teays Valley, which is a great school system with a great reputation. The school system is a large one steming from *****way county into fairfield county. Check out the Teays Valley schools online. I found that living in Southern Central Ohio has been wonderful for our family. My daughter goes to a wonderful school system, housing is fair priced, and it's just beautiful. Hope you have a wonderful day...:-D

Heath and New Albany. New Albany is very expensive though. I would really lean more towards Heath.

I'd recommend Plain City (Jonathan Alder Local) over London, West Jefferson and Mount Sterling. Madison Plains Local (Mount Sterling) has seemed to have more than their share of troubles over the past few years.

If you have elementary age children, I would recommend Dublin or Powell. We relocated to Powell from Texas three years ago and absolutely love it! There are tons of families with small kids and the schools are great. There is a nice variety of home options and most neighborhoods in both areas are filled with kids. If you have any specific neighborhoods you are considering, I could offer additional insight. Shopping is all within easy driving distance but the residential areas are relatively traffic free. I have definitely enjoyed that coming from the city. Good luck with your search! I was pleasantly surprised by how much we like it here.

We did A LOT of searching before we found London, and I'm talking over 2yrs.
Searching for a home can be over-whelming. The best thing you can really do is make a list of your wants & needs, the distance your willing to drive, and then research the surrounding areas. Check out crime rates, school statistics, property taxes, ect to help with the choosing process. Then go there. You can only do so much searching on-line & things might be different in person, good and bad. Also, getting a realtor my be helpful. They can do alot of the leg-work for you & help destress things a bit. Hope this helps. |
