Not related to politics.

Had a subscription to the dispatch for the sunday coupons. Started out as a Thur-Sun subscription because it was the same price as just Sunday. Then they raised the price on just that subscription so I went to Fri-Sun. Then a couple months they raised that price so I went to Saturday and Sunday only. They finally raised the price again so I went to just Sunday.

Then they raised the Sunday price by a dollar. I saw an ad in their paper for Fri-Sun subscription with full access to their website for $3.00 less a week than I was paying for just Sunday.

I called them up to cancel. The lady was wondering why I was canceling so I told her. She offered me the same price but I refused. Basically I told her I was taken advantage of and if I didn't see that ad they wouldn't be offering me the lower price now. She kept on trying to make me stay by offering me free weeks but I refused every offer.

No wonder the dispatch is losing money. The paper version will be out of business within the next ten years I predict.

It is a terrible newspaper. None of the columnists are that great. The articles are generally very superficial. Very little in depth reporting.
Coming from someone who has lived in a few other cities, I would say the Dispatch is actually a pretty good paper relatively speaking. Unfortunately, the old print media format is dying for all the reasons which I'm sure everyone is aware. The Dispatch does a good job of categorizing its content and has a fairly wide swath of coverage from Buckeyes to state & local politics. As for investigative papers, I would say the Dayton Daily News is the best in the state. That paper has written some hard hitting pieces over the years which is unfortunately not the way current journalism is going. Current journalism, to your point Fletchman, is loaden with brevity, superficial, and lacking true sources. It is sad when Wikipedia counts as the most reliable source in a lot of newspaper articles these days. However, what should we expect in our ADHD society when most people are reading content on their iPhones how can editors reasonably expect someone to read a multi-page article on a small device? I know I'm guilty of getting through half an article and simply running out of time and scrapping it. Just a fact of life in the multi-tasking society we live in.
