It seems like both the coolness and danger are no longer like it was around SC from what I was hearing in another thread about the Newport (Agora) while if I'm not mistaken what used to be considered north campus on high street had actually spread a little more toward Clintonville whereas is pretty much used to stop around where the Blue Dube is/was (?)

Am I off base here? Hard to know as I don't get to Columbus that often anymore.

South Campus Gateway, which began when I was a student but didn't open until I after graduated in 2001 has really changed the S. Campus area, at least close to High Street. Along w/ the torn down and redone Kroger on the corner or 7th, the gap between the nice Short North and nice part of campus is only a couple blocks now.

The N Campus district on High extends up to about Hudson I think...I don't think it's gone further north. There's a lot of infill work seemingly going in all along High Street in the campus area.

One thing for sure, their are no longer the steel cables about waste high on the sidewalk to keep us from stumbling out of the plethora of bars that we used to have...and I doubt any bars sell $1 beers and $4 pitchers anymore lol.

No more "drink and drown" at the Underground? Probably a good idea.

The 7 acres just south of the Gateway will get tons of new infill over the next few years.

When I lived on Campus back in 2010, the walk from South Campus to the Short North or vice versa felt treacherous after dark. There were always shady characters afoot and it was dimly lit.

I recently made that walk for the first time in a while. It's a marked difference from "back in the day" and I feel very safe in the transition.

Sounds like my "back in the day" and yours has a couple of decades in between! LOL!

Glad to hear the middle areas on High Street are transitioning back to respectable.

I grew up on Findlay Ave around the corner from the Blue Danube/Dick's Den/Monkey's Retreat. I don't remember it ever being dangerous, but like anywhere else there are sketchy characters walking around. It only got grimy once you went east of Indianola.

This is a problem with more than just that area. Friends of mine have had a vehicle stolen from their Clintonville home - not by a resident of Clintonville neighborhood, but by someone residing just outside Clintonville's borders. Police indicated this is something they are familiar with: A higher income area bordering a lower income area is a beacon for those seeking to rob and steal.
