I am planning on building a home since I cannot find what I want in a house. I know that M/I homes is a big builder in the Columbus area. I do not know much about them but it seems like if you don't spend at least 500K then the quality is horrible. Do you know anything about these builders in the Columbus area or can anyone recommend any that are reasonable?

No one ever answered you? I'm a bit curious also. I've been away from Columbus for over 25 years, but am thinking of moving back.
Of the "mass builders" M/I, Ryan, & Schottenstein didn't have a great rep back then. Duffy was pretty good--don't know if they're still around. Can't imaine M/I or Ryans costing $500K.

M/I is no different than Dominion, Centex, Maronda, Ryan, etc. They are all mass built. Unless you go with a high end builder, you will always have to deal with cookie-cutter homes. Do they use Chinese drywall? Who knows.

Unless you go custom or build it yourself, don't expect any builder to blow you away with quality. Most of them share the same sub-contractors.

I think M/I's newest communities look better than their stuff from 10 years ago, but Fischer Homes is by far the nicest when it comes to exteriors. From what I remember, Maronda, Centex, and Ryan are the "price-conscious" builders. Pulte took over Dominion when Borror decided to focus on downtown / urban builds.

Waggenbrenner is nice for the central city new-builds, but I think I read somewhere that Rockford Homes actually does the construction.
