Are Columbus running trails pretty safe? (Hilltop: high crime, neighborhoods, buy)

And how is the overall crime in Columbus? Pretty much cut into certain sections or areas?

The trails are by and large very safe. I've never had any issues. Violent crime in the city is mostly contained to certain areas, and even then mostly to those engaged in criminal activity already (gangs, drug dealing, etc). High crime neighborhoods are generally South Linden, Driving Park, Hilltop, South of Main, Mt Vernon, Southern Orchards. Non-violent crime or crimes of opportunity (petty theft, vandalism, etc) are more widespread and could theoretically happen anywhere in town, as is true for virtually all cities.

Use common sense, be aware of your surroundings, don't leave valuables in plain sight in your car, on your porch, etc, and you will be A-OK.

Don't bring any valuables. Leave your phone at home. If you need to listen to music, buy a cheap MP3 player instead.

Run in Columbus since 1981. Since plenty of time on the Olentangy trail back in the 90's but don't use it much now. I would say that's a safe trail due to the heavy traffic. Not as busy on the new section north of 270 in Mt Air.

I live in the King-Lincoln neighborhood and do the majority of my running straight from home. The only incident I've had in 10 years was with a homeless person.
