Hi1
We will moving to columbus next July. My husband will be working at OSU. I have been searching for a while for a town house. I found that the Edwards community has good option for us.

My questions; I would like to hear your feedback regarding their properties, location and maintenance. I have 2 boys and hope that such community will be nice for them. I read different reviews all over the internet and got confused!

Also if you live there and have Kids, what do you think of Gables Elementary school?

If you do not recommend, where else should I be looking?

Hope to hear from you soon!
thank you!

Gables Elementary school is a wonderful school! It is often called the "country club of Columbus city schools". Although, it is part of Columbus City School, which doesn't have the best reputation, it is pretty much like a suburban school because of the area it is in.

We live in an Edwards community now (The Orchards) and have a child in Gables Elementary. I'm not honestly too impressed with either. The location of the community is nice; it's relatively quiet and close to everything you need but the complex itself is kind of weathered. We've lived here since August 2014 and have had maintenance out quite a bit:

1. Water leak from the furnace upstairs

2. Water leak from the hot water heater which contributed to a $300 a month water bill. It's been fixed supposedly but our water bill here is still over $120 a month whereas in the house we had prior we averaged $20 a month.

3. Garbage disposal exploded. This one is ok in my opinion; I get that things age, get abused (especially in a rental property) and so on.

4. Roof water leak in the master bathroom. This is the biggest problem we've had so far; every time it rains it comes straight through the ceiling and constantly drips into the room. Also note that every time it rains we call maintenance and they always come out and paint over the wet spot as opposed to addressing the actual roof issue.

Aside from that the unit has a good amount of space, never any issues with the neighbors, nice amenities and no crime or anything to that nature. For the price I'm just not completely sold on it and can't say that I recommend living here.

As for the schooling (Gables Elementary) I agree that the schools location is nice but my 9-yr old son has had four different teachers this year. For whatever reason they keep leaving causing quite a bit of inconsistency for the class. In addition it's the fist year my son hasn't had solid grades which seems like a direct correlation. He's usually able to stay in the A --> B range but since he has started here we've seen his first D. Maybe he's just at an age where his outlook towards school is changing but I have a feeling the constant instructor changes might be playing a part.

WOW! that is really terrible! I am checking now with the Pines, it is in the same area, I read good reviews about it.
Do you know anything about it?

My elder son is also 9 years old, but I heard that Columbus city schools has open enrollment , so do you recommend any other schools?

Regarding Gables, do kids play sports ( like soccer League), have swimming pool cause my son is so into sports?

thank you , your reply is highly appreciated!

The Pines is a very nice community. My son has a few friends who live in that complex and speaking with their parents they don't seem to have any of the maintenance issues we've seen. Also the bus pickup for the schools is right at the front of that community; the Orchards kids have to walk over there to get on the bus. For us being all the way in the back of The Orchards it's like 1/4 mile walk to the bus stop; I usually just drive up there. But also note; A LOT of people do the same so the entrance to The Pines is pretty congested at times in the morning.

As for other schools Hilliard has always been pretty good. If you're ok with arranging transport I'd recommend them over Gables. I know they do soccer, lacrosse, football, baseball and basketball but I don't think they have a pool. The Pines community has a pool albeit they don't do leagues/competition stuff that I'm aware of.
