My family is relocating to the Columbus area in the next few months. I've been researching different areas to move to. I thought that I really liked Delaware, Ohio, but after doing some research (on city-data website) I have found really high rape rates. I was very surprised/concerned about the high number of rapes. I keep wondering if this is somehow incorrect, because I really thought that Delaware was a nice area. I'm just wondering if anyone can give me any advice/insight into this? Thoughts on good areas around Columbus for a family with kids?? Thanks!

Here are some Delaware city crime stats over the years.

All the rates are per 100,000 people.

Overall Violent Crime Rate
1985: 146.2
1990: 184.7
1995: 200.4
2000: 158.5
2005: 279.8
2010: 158.3
2011: 212.8
2012: 149.1
2013: 147.2

Rape Rate
1985: 47.0
1990: 30.0
1995: 100.2
2000: 71.3
2005: 136.6
2010: 54.7
2011: 92.0
2012: 47.8
2013: 47.2

So I do think Delaware has had unusually high rates of rape/violent crime for a city its size in the past, but they seem to be near 25-30-year lows right now.

Upper Arlington, Grandview, Bexley, Hilliard, Dublin, Worthington are all decent, low crime areas.

There are some sketchy apartments and side streets in Delaware that you probably wouldn't notice passing through. No worse than most mid-size Ohio towns but they exist.
