Columbus City Schools have schools that out rank the suburbs, or on par. The truth is some of the schools rank very well and others rank moderately and others poor.
The best schools in the city district tend to be the magnet schools, where you can apply based upon region of the city or where enrollment is open to all Columbus City School students.
The other schools, that perform well and have many advanced or AP classes, are in the more mixed income or well off neighborhoods like NW Columbus, Clintonville, Berwick.
Last, the the city schools have great programs and have avoided cutting into languages and arts. Thanks to a new healthy budget the schools are adding languages like Mandarin, expanding Spanish/French/German offerings, and continuing to offer strings/orchestra/band/choir/fine arts programs at a time when other national and local suburban districts are facing massive arts/sports cuts.
(For example Reynoldsburg will cut ALL middle and elementary language and arts programs if their levy does not pass.)
